good post Chris, the best way to avoid the situation at hand is DON T BE SO EARLY.

This is just as the horn stopped blowing.. and I mean JUST.. gary was not called over.. the start buoy is in the center.. lets say gary was on the line.. Kenny was Clearly over.. the Timex is then over too..

I suspect the (two red boats) are to blame for the confusion.. its easy to do.. been there done that.
Well just maybe the start judge confused the red US and the red Timex? If so the US was the lead boat and Duke second till David hit the bouy. If the club officials think that could have happen I think Duke is the winner. I would have no problem with that.
I asked Larry Gemp Sr to review the video and get with his club to determine more closely the winner of the Silver Cup.

Their decision was that the Timex had jumped.

This puts Duke M in the winners circle Congrats Duke.

At the time of the race the video was checked but the small camera screen and hard to hear audio didn't help much so the original call was went with.

Race CD really need to pay attention to those scale final starts i guess, and the racers should not be so close to the line like Dan says HA.

Congrats Duke we will get together to present you with the trophy.

NO second place for you Duke.

WEll There you have it.....I have Known Phil for many years now. And yes this is a truly great man.

I just got off the phone with him. and he did concede and reiterates this is a hobby after all we are all big men competing for a big prize.

I recently saw a Quote on facebook that went 'when you come to a point where you have no need to impress anybody, your freedom will begin.....Congrats DUKE, but WOW Phil Thomas you the man....

I was right there and as new D4 director i was under scrutiny, but the rulebook states this is not my place it is the place of the Contest Director to make the CALL. YES originally the Audio was the main focus of the decision But , If Phil was in lane 4 the camera shows he was over and David was not. there was confusion at looking at the small camera screen which boat was which. I did tell Duke that i saw that he was what i considered the winner through the confusion. though again it is not my call....

What is hard to fathom is that we now do need a camera to decide the result. Maybe Transponders are next or laser sensors.. We all have to remeber its all in fun. I would love to have my name on that trophy also. i have been trying for 12 years....
