Hey Tim, Dick Smith has the mini switches and rubber boots. They also have a Micro switch but no rubber boot for it, don't get confused. On the other hand if you would like some I have a few

I never liked the factory switches, they are the only ones that have ever given me trouble, but I have to admit I never thought to take them out of the case.

Bzubee, I just "Googled" ATCO MTA 206N. Their everywhere, So ATCO is the manufacturer. Whether they come with the water proof toogle, is another story.

Mike,

I'm using those ones (micro - modified to take small boot) in the 21 boat where weight and space are premium! How durable have they been for you?

Tim.

I have not had one fail yet.

As you saw some of mine are inside the box and the ones mounted on the radio box lid I have only been using for a year or so. I thik the best place is through the side of the box at the front, that way you can remove the lid with out wires hanging down.

Esspecially true for riggers where your tuned pipe is mounted to the lid! If you have wires going through the lid as well and it blows off you could loose a receiver. ;)

I use the dubro switch and I glue the switch to the mount with Sho Goo so it doesn't fall apart. I had the screws pull through in the past.

Before I do this, I take the switch apart and spray the thing with corrosionX HD.

I was a little lucky at Canberra - the Receiver stayed put! The pipe, lid, bracket, switch, arial tube all lost to the pond monster. I need longer pipes so I don't have to mount them on the radio box lid!

I don't mind the switches being in the lid too much, they aren't too difficult to unplug from the batteries and the receiver. The thing I dislike is when the pipe has to be negotiated to get to the switch! Ouch - hot pipe!

That's when you get your pit man to turn it off!

Boaters,

It depends on your motor setup for your switch location. If it is a rear

exhaust motor you have the whole lid to mount to. If it is a front exhaust

motor I try to keep them up front as much as possible. Remember to keep

the switch location out of the tape line. Switch is a matter of choice,I like the

locking ones in the picture up above. A DuBro works well too.

Good luck,

Mark Sholund

I've been happy with the Dubro switch holders & JR switches with the gold contacts & extra charge lead. I always set the switch up so that pushing in is on position. I mount them thru the radio box lid but NEVER mount tuned pipe brackets to lid so they don't get pulled off. Don't seem to loose pipes either for that matter. B)

The way I see it, if you get hit hard enough to knock the pipe off the boat, you have more problems than worrying about the switch.

Actually, when my boat got hit I was expecting the worst. The tub and sponsons were fine. It must have hit right on the pipe as there was no paint missing from anywhere. I had a steel safety line attached to the pipe and the transom - (a fishing tracer) and it snapped in half!

Anyway - this wasn't the reason for me starting the thread - I just thought it was a good topic to bring up!

MikeG,

Check out Jaycar search for ST0355 and ST0594. Very small and so far so good!

Don,

How do you mount the pipe bracket? Any chance of a pic of under the hatch lid?

On my 67 boat the muffler stinger is about where your switch is in your pic! Rather short

Tim.

If you can come up with an NSN it also shows distributors and phone numbers they will sell smaller quanities than manufactures do that' how I got into the prop nut business.

Bzubee, had to wait untill I got to work this morning to look it up. Here's what I"ve got...

NSN 5930-01-122-0518. It had and older number, 5930-00-622-3086, but that one sez discontinued, use till depletion. Hope this is what your looking for.

How this Tim? The bracket is the stock piece that comes with the Speedmaster pipe brackets. The pedestal is balsa epoxied in with a birch ply section glued to the top to give the screws something to bite into. The cover is notched to clear the bracket. The gray block in the pic is a high density piece of foam. B)

Thanks Don,

Exactly what I was after ;) Looks good.

I thought about putting a bracket into the bulkhead but don't really like that idea.

When I get to finishing the new tub I'll give that a shot! The old SG will have to live with the pipe on the lid for the moment. Racing it next week. If I still have a pipe when I get back I'll change that one over too.

Tim.

Tim, thanks for the parts no. of the rubber boot for the mini-switch. I'm all out of stock- Was lucky to find some at my local RadioShack (Radio Shack no longer carries the boots anymore :( )
