Can any of you gentlemen tell me if it is ok to run our boats at the lake out at Mt Trashmore? I am going to be there on the 19th and now living only a few minutes from there just wondering? Thanks Navy Dave

Dave,

The local club there is the Old Dominion Model Boat Association (ODMBA). Preston Hall, a member of this board is the club President. Henrietta, who is Preston's fiancee, just posted the race schedule for ODMBA under the race group thread.

The club has a lake in Chesapeake, off I-64, Greenbriar north exit. Go across N. Military Highway and the lake is directly behind Indian River High School on the right. There is a road that runs behind the school to the lake. That lake has been the club race site since the early 1970's. ODMBA does NOT use Mt. Trashmore as it is not sanctioned and insured through IMPBA. The club has a very competitive club racing series for the season and is on Sunday afternoons. They have one major invitational race each year in late August. They would welcome you coming at any time. I starting my racing career there in 1991.

Thank you for the information. I will be joining you guys very soon. My race experiance is very limited, mainly goofing on sunday afternoons with the local guys. I do want to get serious mainly due to the fact I will be in one place long enough now I can go to events and be useful to a club. I downloaded the sked and I plan on comming out on the 21st to meet everyone and say hello. I wont have any ov my boats they will be in route to me so I will wait on that. look forward to meetin you all soon thanks Navy Dave.

Preston is no longer the President. The requirements of his new job made it necessary to step down & Larry Hibbert has taken over the position. B)

Oh lord you're going to get me in trouble - I don't have the ball and chain attached to Preston, might just look that way  I'm the club secretary now since Larry moved in the president's job.

No need to ask Preston about that comment - we KNOW what he would say!

Just make the newbies feel welcome and you will be & do fine.

Ya think I might have had other things on my mind .....

.............like a blown motor knocking me out of the twin shootout.

Dave,

I know a few Gas (read not nitro) Guys that have run at Mt. Trashmore. That I know of….nobody has been told to 'go away' yet…..Virginia Beach is a pretty cool city, but I would be the least bit surprised if someone put an end to the gassers this year. There are no types of club racing there or course.

There is an electric boat club that meets there on Sundays they are happy to use their electrics to retrieve dead wood (read scale tugboats). You will not be able to retrieve your boat via a manned watercraft….the only thing allowed in the lake is RC boats, ducks, and tennis balls tied to a fishing pole.

There are some excellent boaters in the local IMPBA club if you are interested in getting a leg up on some good racing (ODMBA) good people there for certain.

Hope this helps,

If you are going to be at the beach that weekend, our next club race is the 21st (Sunday). Open water at noon. :D

I would not risk the chance. No safety provided out here.

The club has the only privileges to the Indian River Lake.
