This pic was taken at Detroit back in 89. What Is ironic is that I was there 25 years later sponsoring and crewing for the exact same boat. Neither the miss madison nor I look anything like we did back then. We both have a few stress cracks but we still keep chugging along.

Kenny, Leon, and Steve Action Jackson with you
yup. We didn't win a lot of awards but we sure had fun.

I don't have pics of my first two boats which is probably a good thing. The first one that ran was a AM 21 sprint cat with a Picco P5 which I still have. This was taken at Legg Lake circa 92'. I am not sure who was helping me in the pics, perhaps Mark Grim and a young Chris Grim. I still remember my first race at Legg back when it was APBA. I had to run in A hydro and could not get my boat on the pipe. Mark Grim came over to my pit and said something to the effect "this is all wrong, try this X642 prop and shorten your pipe." Low and behold it was the first time ever the boat got on the pipe and ran decently. I finished all the heats and placed third that day in A hydro!

I like that little sprint cat. One of the people here in district 9 back then had one and it was a nice running little boat.

Mark Grim confirmed that is Mike DeHoog standing up, Chris Grim facing the camera and Mark kneeling.

My Father an I. I was Home on leave just after Airbourne school for 2 weeks then of to 1/75 Rangers BN 1980

picture taken at Melbourne Fl Rudder Busters. Started building again hope to race next year nitro race in Jan.

This was my first serious attempt at building a scale Hydro,I put a brand new OS 46 in it ,I never got it to plane because I only had one plastic prop to work with and didn't know what I was doing. I think it was a Dumas kit. It's sitting on the rear wing of Aussie Bud ,an unlimited hull that dad was building for Ron Burton ,Ron also owned Miss Bud the former 73 Budweiser after it made its way to Australia. It must have been about 1984 .

If it was a Dumas, it would have been the sport 40 kit at .9 meters long since they didn't produce a kit for the "Blue Blaster" in 1/8 scale. A scale version of the boat would have been roughly 1.1 meters long. Either way, the boat looks good. For what it's worth, I built the Dumas sport 40 kit of that Atlas and, with K&B 45 power, couldn't get it up on plane either. Ended up giving it to a friend's son. Saw it pictured at a garage sale a few years back, no tails, wing or cowl.

I found a couple really old pics of my Father and his Drag n Fly. These are probably from the Detroit area back in the 60's or early 70's. I think he is about to use that leather strap in his hand to start the boat!
