I'm guessing that you are probably using .125"/.130" flex cable. You might consider moving up one size to .150" flex. It would handle considerably more torque.

Thanks for the advice. I am using the .130 flex and I think it would be a good idea to move up to the .150 at this time. Does this mean that I will have to replace the brass stuffing tube with one of a larger size, that would be a pain!

Dave, if your running a nylon liner, try removing it and running the .150 directly into the brass stuffing tube. I run most of my boat without liner's now and I prefer it.
