O/B Rigger Tech

I hope to build an O/B rigger from scratch this winter and was looking for some tech.

I know the rear sponsons are moved back to help support the o/b engine in corners. I have also read that the turn fin is usually placed farther to the rear. Any other differences between i/b and o/b riggers?

Also, I found a 1991 magazine article on Mark Grim's Predator. The article makes mention of a "side mount rudder". What is that? I don't think they were talking about the turn fin? I assumed o/b riggers steered with the engine, not a rudder.

More corner speed is obtained by locking the motor and using a rudder. Id look hard at the Prather spitfire,you dont see many outboard riggers as they eat flex shafts like butter melting on corn on the cob.

Contact Joe Monohan from 707 specialties, he is selling/building the sundowner OB outrigger. I also have a sundowner, see here. They are a lot of fun to drive.

The other option for side mount rudder could be that you remove the fin on the lower and add a fin/rudder attatched to the cavitation plate, see picture below

Yup thats the one. The rigger in my post isn't mine, just a picture i found somewhere on the net some time ago.
