Friends, I had a chance to run my Toro Nero in my hyrdo Saturday...I am impressed! Although the motors is still a ways from being broken in (still requires a wrench to get it off TDC sometimes), it is turning good RPM, is VERY consistant (NEVER quit in the 8 - 10 tanks I ran), and has awesome throttle response. I always run new motors 100% stock (some head shims were removed to get the HC to about .010"). Even as good as it was running I think there may be room for improvement by bumping up the exhaust timing a bit (I haven't had a chance to measure one yet, but I think the main exhaust port is in the high 160*s with the exhaust booster about 10* higher). I don't plan on modding mine anytine in the near future...

There is some neat stuff done to the sleeve that I haven't seen on the other marine motors. The cases are the Plus 21 case with a black finish (looks COOL). The motors come with a 14.5 mm SG style crank with counter weight (I plan to mod the crank and provide a modded flywheel so it will be ready to run out of the box), a seven intake port sleeve, domed/dish piston (even thought the picture shows a flat one), and is set up for standard plugs. Some of the specs from the Nova website:

- Max. power 2,80 Hp

- R.P.M (Max. power) 35.000

- Practical range 6.000 ~ 40.700 R.P.M.

- Bore x stroke 15.88mm x 17.60mm

Price looks like it will be around $300 (depending on the exchange rate when I order more of them).

Glenn

glen , is that model available as a outboard ?...bob

Looks like they changed the stroke again. If memory serves me right the stroke is the same as the .28's?? If that is correct. I could make a OB crank out of the .28 OB crank blanks that I have for it.

Yes, this motor is offered as a extra long stroke and is the same as the .28 motors. There is no plan to get away from the long stroke motors we are using now...this is just designed for folks wanting more torque.

Lights, that would be cool if you built an OB conversion...Jerry Dunlap was already asking me about that.

Glenn thats OK. I will have some 14.5mm blanks to make one out of. If he wants one I will make him a crank for it.

Guys, I had time to run the motor a few more times this evening and it is still working great...has not quit, sagged, or anything silly not even once! I had time to do one prop change, I put a full, stock H7 on it and it pulled it like it wasn't even there! Looks like it is going to be a good motor. It is still tight and I had a little too much water going to it (of course it is still running rich), so I haven't seen the top RPM. I will try to post a video of it later.

i will be running one myself too, in the next couple of weeks,

but i do think it will be hard to make real good power with such low exhaust timing,

we will see..lol

Aaron, I am finding that it is a different kind of power...it is not (at this point with a stock motor) set up for ultra high RPM in lite boats, but it looks to be fantastic for RACING POWER in a normal guys, normal boat. I have found it to be very easy to tune, very easy to launch and is showing good speed for this stage of the break in.

I will be interesting to see what happens when one of us has a chance to raise the timing and run it.

Talk to you later,

Glenn

Friends, here are a couple of short YouTube videos of a couple of the break in runs yesterday. At this point the motor is still pretty rich, and I had too much water running to it. You can see the trim and props are a long way from being right, but I will work on that once I get the break in done. You will be able to see me playing with the throttle response, the video doesn't do it justice...the rpm's were coming up and down almost exactly with my trigger finger...fast, slow, anywhere in between.

Glenn

Look good and fast is the NR.21TN comes in flywheel, header and pipe cost $300.00??

Glenn,

The boat sure didn't like the H-7 in the video.

I will send you something else to video on the boat.

Motor sounds good, but I would raise the timings up

and continue the break-in period. I received the aprons

today by the way.A 50 x 69 or 1452 would be a better choice

with a little added cup to drop that rooster down some.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Glenn, Few questions if you dont mind....

What flywheel are you using currently?

Will the Solinger 21sg flywheel work with this?

Could you post pictures of this engine in your boat?

Can I get this in a turbo head?

Thanks in advance.

Mark, the stock H7 acted about like I expected (you can hear my comments about the expect hop on about the second lap). I was more interested in how it would pull it since this is a prop lots of folks use as a base line. I look forward to playing with what you send.

Rob, I am using the Nova flywheel. My plan is to sell these with the crank and flywheel mod done. I really like guys being able to take a motor out of the box and run it. I will try to get you some pictures, but it looks just like any other Nova in a boat. I am not sure about the turbo plug head, I will check.

Hi Glenn, motor sounds good for just breaking it in. Some strut/prop tweaking will get you there for sure. I know H-4 lifts less than H-7, if you have one to try. Dia of H-4 is only about 1.730 though. What pipe are you running in the videos? I might need one of those motors for my birthday next month lol. Richard D
