I found a new pond that is very nice BUT I can't run any of my gas boats there so I am looking to build a electric rigger. I want to build something that will use the 1/4" props that I already have. Any suggestions on a hull and a brushless motor setup that works good. I am not a electric guy but I want to do it right the first time! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would be highly afraid of an electric rigger that turns 1/4" props!

We usually turn 25 to 30M RPM in such setups and only smaller 3/16 size props.

Actually very few if any yet are actually made.

There are currently some on the drawing tables of some modelers but I know of none ready to go yet.

Are you looking to sport run or all out speed?

I know that there should be a few rigger guys out there who could point you in the right direction.

Actually... my N2-Open setup turns closer to 40K... ;) My sport boats are in the 30K range... :D

He might be interested in building a 12-cell rigger like the Snowman has been running... 70+ EASY with an oval setup... SCARY fast! Especially when he puts on the 12-cell equivalent Lipo packs!

Even if he has to use a 3/16" stub... he can always make some shims for the props... much like we do occasionally with the 1/8" shafts for 3/16" props...

Paul,

Howard knows of a few good quarry's that you could safely run it in.....but look out for the shore line....solid rock! If that thing ever gets ran/built I sure would NOT want to be in or near the water!

Thanks for all the info guys. I found some info and it looks like I will be getting a 12 cell rigger with a brushless motor. I guess I will have to start buying 3/16" props now.

If you set it up for Lipo power you will get much longer run times.

Best to ask as many questions 1st though.

Alan I got very good deal on a slightly used Glass rigger with 9XL motor and Hacker speed control from a guy a RumRunner. I am going to run it with NiMH batts at first and eventually make the switch to LIPO batts for sure. I need to do a lot of research on the Lipo's before I make the switch and with this hull being my first electric boat I am sure I have a lot of learning to do.
