the boat looks great marty..3lb 3oz is a very good weight with cmb, both of my 21s are the same weight as yours but with novarossi..i like your front sponsons too, oh and your flat ski and wide stance B)

the black hardware is nice, ive been looking for a place to have annodizing done.

with your testing with the center ski on your other boat, did you have the strut depth set like this one?

Martin:

During that time, we were running solid shafts and the ski was 1/4" felow the bottom of the tube or about 3/8-1/2" below the cl of the shaft. Attack angle on the ski was much steeper too.

We do go back a ways and have seen some STUFF.

Marty, I meant on your last 20 boat that you liked what you saw with the ski, not on the old hardshaft boats.

The lightest that I have ever built a .21 hydro. Previously 3lbs 12oz was the lightest that I had ever been able to do. The boat MIGHT be too light. We will see. Easy to add weight, but VERY difficult to remove it.

Bill:

Yes, I bet you know the color since you painted it... Kind of "School Bus Yellow" with Black Anodized hardware. I missed a few pieces and pipe so I have to take another basket full of parts to the Anodizer. Found some really cool red anodized alum socket head cap screws to mount the hardware.

This had been sort of a "throwback" for me in design, to the old Crapshooter days.
Did you build it for SAW or is it rugged enough to take a season of heat racing?

just curious

No, I built it for heat racing. We will see if it lasts....

Rod Hendricks built a 45 boat which he will run in Charleston and I am finishing up a 67 boat also. Both will be ready for Charleston and MAYBE Hobart.

That is a slick looking prop nut, I bet it is worth a couple mile an hour. :)

About the prop nut:

A shameless plug. MANY years ago Fred McBroom found these nyloc nuts that are the same size as a glow plug and take the same wrench. He gave me a couple and I used them on a boat for the life of the boat. I had not been able to find them since, but a friend of mine found them and got a supply. I am set now and have enough for life.

I can't reccomend these enough. Contact Norm to get some.

It has been several years since I had a ski on one of my 20 boats. Not sure why.....

I liked the ability to pull bigger props mostly. It shields some of the prop on launch and makes launch EASY. Will allow a much higher pitch prop to be run.

Marty,

The problem with the bigger pitched propellers is the handling

sacrifices that you give up though. Good RPM on a decent size

propeller is what I look for in a good heat racing boat. The ABC

1518/3 on your boat in the picture came unhooked in race water?

That is amazing to me since we tested over a dozen of them and

none ever came unhooked from the launch till we came in from testing.

The only problem with that propeller is the 40 mm size. If it was

45 mm it will go way faster than the 75 MPH that we tested it at.

Your new boat looks very nice.

Thanks For Reading,

Mark:

I guess the definition of "decent sized prop" might be our difference of opinion. I am like Chris Wood, I like the 50mm (1450) sized props. They stay hooked up really well and I can mill and do everything that fits my driving style.

The problem for me with the high rpm pipes is that I like to be able to mill really slow to get a perfect start. I HATE to have to run really fast during mill and try to get a decent start. I think that this is a throwback to my early racing days and I can't break the habit.

The prop that I had on the boat for the photo was really fast, but it launched with a lot of cavitation and it would not stay hooked up in rough water at all.

Guess I will just stick with the H7 and 1450's. I do have plans to run a cupped S15 early on in testing with the new boat. I ran a consistent 86mph with the old boat so I know it will run really fast. Problem is to get it to be smooth. We will see.... I also want to do some testing with the 1650 with some mods.
