Now, I received the 50" seebold wood kit the other day, and I will start working on building it soon. But first, here is the progress on the 38" version. I started the cowling plug for it, and have been building the hull itself. I am really happy with the look of the hull. This is gonna be a very cool boat! Enjoy, Mike
Like the 50" version, the 38" is starting life in a similiar way. Foam core, with Styroshield primer to protect the foam from styrene damage.
Using the same technique I developed for my GSX lineup of Sport hydroplanes, and the Extreme series Winston Eagle Lobster scale hull, this tunnel incorporates the dowel rod tab system that forces the sponsons to be aligned perfect to the center section...making for a very square build, and very strong too!
Been buys with some things, but got the first large size Evinrude F1 cowling out of the mold this weekend, and finished up a customers blue flake Baha and Merc cowling. Check them out! Mike
Man, everyone wants a Merc cowl...haha. Guess I will have to do one. The Zenoah would be really tight in this Evinrude cowl. I am mainly doing the Seebold project for a large electric setup. The Merc cowl I can do a little bigger so one can fit.
I have been building on the 38" and 50" hulls a little bit at a time. I will probably get the 50" version done first as the sponsons are framed, and sheeted now. I will get pics of those tonight. The 38" canopy plug is pretty much ready to make the mold, and as noted already, the 50" canopy mold is done. I might try and pull a part from it later this week. Just have not had the time!
Hey Andy, yes, I actually do have some updates. The 38" and 50" kits are done, and I have both kits here, building them both right now. I also have the 50" mold done, and should pull the first part this week, and the 38" cowl plug is done, and ready to make a mold this week. I will post pics tomorrow!
Mike, that big cowl sitting on a MHZ lower, Is that intended for gas or FE? I have a leg like that and plan to use it as a gasser, and would like to have a cowl for that scale look
Thomas, it is definitely big enough for FE, and should work with gas depending on the pipe you are trying to use. I just laid up one last night with some other things. I can get you measurements if you like? Thanks, Mike
