There is a law suit on this and if i was you i would be checking it out.
The other component of the lemon law class action suit against GM dealt with the 2011-2014 5.3 LS Vortec piston ring material and design.
The issue first appeared, intermittently, in 2007.

The court found in favor of the class plaintiffs in the amount of ~$103M...
allowing each class participant about $2200 each. Hardly enough to repair the existing engine let alone installing a new short block.

Ford and Chrysler are experiencing even greater law suit woes... pretty much leaving Toyota as the safest bet.

Don't put new lifters on a old cam when the lifter were trashed You will have problems down the road.I was a Gm tech for 28 years.

Thanks Dave,

That's good advice. But unfortunately, the horse is out of the barn.

I'm not so sure any of them are safe bets anymore. I have been researching the various trucks, and you're right, Toyota probably is the best bet. But what concerns me is the recent redesign of the Toyotas. As far as I can tell you can't get a V-8 anymore. They have gone to an iForce V-6 twin turbo with VVT-i (variable valve timing with intelligence). I have not researched it, but it makes me think it's similar to the tech the others have been using??? Time will tell if there will be issues I guess.

The issue is cost. All of this ongoing technology is feasible, but Engineering Depts. hands are tied due to corporate bean counters and govt. regulation.

I come from a GM family, grew up in GM cities, retired from there, and having worked in Engineering, watched ALL of the auto industry's products degredate over time.
Globalism and International standardization hasn't helped either.

If these ~$70K vehicles were designed and manufactured to reliably last the course of the finance term, and beyond, the cost would double.

Of course, there are other issues, like corporate greed and politics that come into it, not to mention corporate lobbiests that own the politicians.

Most of us here live in America...and the core problem here is American's fucking Americans.
It even goes on in this rc boat hobby.

Still have my 2001 Silverado 5.3l vortec 1500 4x4 ext cab w/t 8ft bed has 498k on the clock only major item I replaced was a fuel pump and normal maintenance items tuneup brakes rotors no electronic do hickeys with cylinder shut down don't even have electric windows too much crap on these vehicles today to go bad

I deleted mine by never giving GM any more of my hard earned cash for these failures.
Got rid of my 2007 GMC Yukon, bought a Dodge CTD dually 4x4 and never looked back.
Wife's car is a Toyota Venza 3.5L motor, we've put 82k on the clock, with absolutely no problems...
I am a 35 year mechanic currently working for dodge because that's where all the business is right now paying the most money we have a average of 5 chargers and about 6 to 8 pickups in our shop getting new motors and transmission a week so much so we have rented to shipping containers next to our building loaded with hemis and tranny's you can get a auto that blows up in 40 k or have one run forever it'***** or miss with quality control of parts believe it or not our Hyundai dealership has the lowest amount of warranty work out of our 9 brand auto mall

That's why I got the '07 CTD with a manual 6 speed 4x4...Extended cab dually. Upgraded the front axle with all new ball joints and lockout hubs... far as I'm concerned, the drive train is now bulletproof, and with proper maintenance, I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off...

Funny thing about the Venza... it's not happy out on the highway unless I'm buzzing along at 87-90 mph...seems to be the 3.5L's sweet spot.. once I get up to speed and set the cruise,,it buzzes right along !!!

At least that's the story I told the Mississippi trooper that certified my speedometer was calibrated to his radar gun... at 92 mph... 🤪

Can't go wrong with a stick .I'm saving my coin to buy a brand new pickup in about 6 years cash since the way the left wingatics are concerned there not allowing new ice to be sold after 2032 which is is impossible but I live in a liberal state and they like to play follow the leader with ca and ny they passed a law that bans all new gas stations lol clowns

I had a 2013 tundra I leased it was a great truck Toyota makes some good vehicles and some scratch your head ones

Had my 08 Yukon w5.3 V8 since new. Currently has 175k on it with no engine issues ever. Change the oil every 3k with good old organic dinosaur sludge. Most of those miles are highway but i do a lot of trailering. The biggest problem i've had was the fuel pump housing rusting out. Had to pull the tank and replace the fuel module at 160k. Recently bought a new 22 Yukon for the wife(with trailering package), rides like a cruise ship with the independent rear suspension, just luv it!
The Toyotas look nice but they can't pull a trailer or push snow like the Full size GM Trucks.

Since we're talking GM Chevy issues,
Anyone with an older truck, 2011 have the issue of message coming up, traction control, stabilitrac shutting off, service traction control, service stabilitrac. No other ill affects just an annoying ding ding ding & message.
Is there an easy fix?

I've had that come up when towing a few times. It's usually come up when I was on a wet or curvy road when I've had to quickly change direction

Yes, common issue with the Traction Control/Stabilitrak....the degree of issue does vary, though.

There are a few simple fixes depending on your level of issue.
Here is the doorway, you do the research -

Hmmmm...let me go see if I can duplicate this issue on my 68 Chevy C-10... oh wait,,,

Well,,,maybe I can check it out on my 79 Luv truck with the small block in it...I know it definitely has traction issues... 🤪

I live in Alaska, just a day ago we got about a foot of snow! What appeared to be a brand new Chevy truck got stuck in the un plowed street. I have no idea what traction he selected but only 1 front tire was turning and a couple of pushed him to get going. I have a 5.3 2004 GMC 4x4 and when in 4x4 all 4 wheels are digging so you better let off or your going to be more stuck, just back up and be gentle. I also have 2020 Trax all wheel drive and it awesome in the snow.
