I don't know about wood but it sure will cut everything else with a slick as glass cut . That thing is bad to the bone !!! I've seen it cut 3" tempered steel plate and not leave a ripple !!!!!!!

Ron, we have 4 Wire EDM machine, they work great on metals. Water cutters are really neat machines, & give an extremely smooth finish on hard objects, but I don't thing they would be good on wood. For one, water causes the wood to swell so the cut width would become wider (once the wood dried out again) the longer the cut. And, water will separate the bond in plywood, turning it into trash. Lasers are the best way to go when it comes to a very consistent & accurate cut.

Finne. To make the cutting head on a water machine would be easy, nothing more than a high pressure “Pressure Washer”, but it would have to be in an enclosed environment because of the over spray would go everywhere making a huge mess, as well as really causing damage to soft material like skin. So it would have to be either CNC controlled, or you would have to make an enclosure for a milling machine base & retro-fit the head. Either of these would be no easy task :(

The water cutter at the Space Center will cut an angel food cake without making it soggy or it will cut six inches of granit.

But do you think that they would cut us some boat kits? ;D ;D I'd hate to see what they charge an hour!

Nice to see you in here Hap.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the originator of this thread hasn't said anything more since the initial posting? Are you looking to have some Laser cutting done or just asking?

Thanks for the intro Ron.... lol

Actually I just bought a fuel tank kit from Grim, and along with it is a wood frame that has been lazer cut. I have heard all of you speaking of lazer cut parts all the time, but have never seen the stuff or had any experience with it, so I had to ask. I would presume that sometime in the future I will be needing to have some parts cut, but not right now.

If you go back into the "Project Speed" thread, there are 2 pix of my sister's laser cutter, one shot of a guy that just off from work and looking grubby. That's me.

Peter, Lazer looks cooler written than Laser. ;D

It is interesting how it works, I learn more every time Sis is running it. I didn't know that the beam comes from the back of the cabinet and is reflected through mirrors to the cutting head.

Funny you say that Ron. A sub company of Climate Models (strictly does contract laser cutting for other people, is "Cutting Edge Lazer" with a "Z".

It scares me that we think the same sometimes. ;D

Peter
