chili did u start building yours yet.i have mine laid out to cure a little bit

Yep. Sponsons are all put together and I just finished applying the top sheet to the tub. It's my first kit and rigger build. I had a few little snags along the way like making sure stuff was square. I guess thats part of the learning process. I'm pretty happy how she has turned out. I have the South River RC motor mount sitting in the tub but I have not mounted it yet and I will wait to install the ski once the motor and stuffing tube are installed. Next step will be exterior finish work on the tub and sponsons.

mike, who do you use for a lhs? check out east coast hobbies in winchester. while they are car & truck folks, they can order anything you may need, don't charge shipping, order twice a week (order by mon, get it wed., order by wed, get it fri.), & are very knowledgable about fe stuff. great people to deal with. call chad or lauren, tell 'em i sent ya ;) . give me a call tomorrow - 703-928-0625.

Okay Robin, I'll give them a shot. I usually go to Hobby Hanger in Chantilly. They are big with the plane and helo crowd, but also carry cars trucks and RTR boats. They are good for basic R/C stuff (servos, linkage, building supplies). I have to do mail order with most of the FE stuff because it's so specialized. Very few hobby shops carry 10 gauge wire and 240 amp water cooled speed controllers. LOL

I'll try and give you a call. Something tells me I may get called in for OT tomorrow. They upped the snow forecast for the area.

i saw the weather forecast had changed. i'm on call during snow removal for my company also. east coast doesn't stock a lot of stuff, because of their frequent orders. don't expect to just shoot over there for a pack of screws.

keep us posted on your builds. i have all 3 jae's (12, 21g, 21fe) being built rignt now. i am curious what power you guys are using in the fe's. are you going spec or all out. i havent decided on a motor yet. i have a NIB ul-1 motor but i am leaning more twards a 1415 or 1515 or feigao 7xl. i have had great luck with the 1515 1y 2200kv in mono's but i was hoping i could use something like the 1.5d 2700kv in a rigger. i havent got the tubs yet (all 3 being built by the same guy at the same time, should have it within about a week) so i dont know the space i am dealing with. i figure if worst comes to worse i can build a cowl to clear the 1415 or 1515. i am more interested in that motor because i know it can pull big props.

i have all the parts to get going on it, just need to pick a motor and mount. i will be using one of jim m's struts, zipkit rudder, castle 240, .187 flex, full size steering servo, 5000mah 30c 4s.

i only have a 12 built right now so i have a few questions about the FE

what are the dimentions of the tub where the motor goes?

what morors are you planning on? do you think a 1.5d 2700kv is too high kv for 4s

what size is the battery box in the FE?

thanks

I'm going to be using the UL1 motor for spec racing. I love the 1515 1y motor in my P-mono and it is used in sport hydro racing. Another popular motor for 4S is the 1521 1.5D though I have no personal experience with it and read it may be more suitible for the heavier mono boats. I tend to go with proven set ups and let the guys with deep pockets experiment for me. LOL!

The inside of the tub is 2.5" wide. The two lid openings are 1-7/8 inches wide. There are two bulkheads, one at about 9-3/4 " fromt the transom and one at about 23 1/4". These are not full bulkheads that separate the compartement but more like a 1/8 inch framing around the inside of the tub. This allows you to run batteries and motor through them if you prefer. I'm not sure where I'm going to mount the motor because this is my first rigger and I have no idea where the CG should be. So I'm going to talk to some folks and wait for others to finish builds before I decide what I'm gonna do. My Polyquest 4s 30C 4500 will fit in the nose. My Turnigy 5000 35C packs are too wide to fit in the lid openings and go in the front but are shorter will fit behind the rear boom. Again, I have no idea where CG should be set at so I don't know if the batteries are better off in the nose or behind the boom sleeve.

chilli i learned a few things when i built my jae12.i am getting ready to build the fe21 and going to do a build on here.so dont laugh this is my first build i doing online.

well i love the idea of a 1521 1.5d because it will pull the big props they are running in nitro configuration. i just am worried about 1 pack. i know my 1515's will puff a 30c pack if onlu 1 is used. also i dont want this thing to weigh 15lbs when i am done. i might just go the ul1 route and see how she goes. also have heard of good results with the scorpion outrunner... hmmmmmm..

Looking foward to see your build William. No laughs here. This was my first kit build too and I had my fair share of problems. Initially, the tub came out twisted. I had to pull the tub bottom and reglue it because the bottom sheet was not perfectly staight on one side and I did not have her clamped in the jig correctly. Also the sponson sleeves were not aligned correctly, so I had to yank them out. I got the tub perfect now and am very happy with how she turned out. I sealed the boat inside and out with penetrating epoxy sealer this morning and the only thing left as far as the kit build is reinstalling and aligning the sleeves in the sponson. Unfortunatly I can't find one of my booms so now I have to get one before I finish up. Any idea what size I need and where I can order it???

Chuck if using one pack on the 1515 1y, I would think extra caps would also be in order to reduce ripple current since the batteries would be pushed harder. That would be a quick way to fry a speed controller. You could probably squeeze two batteries in there but I don't know if she would float....

chili i put the sleeves in the sponsons after i had the tub built.that way all i had to do was put the boom tubes in the hull and use the hull to make sure they went straight.just a idea for you

Good idea William and thats what I'm gonna do. If memory serves me, the manual talks about how important it is to have the tub square and the tub boom sleeves aligned but doesnt talk too much about the sponsons. I assembled the sponsons as directed. I thought I did a good job as everything looked identical and symetrical, but when I put them on the ends of the boom tubes it was obvious the sleeve alignment was off.

I know...just read your thread. hmmm...I have not had too much trouble with them loading...it's just that the pics come out super-sized sometimes and I am not good at resizing them...wish I could help you out...
