You can use the screws that come with the kit, first pre drill the holes for the screws, then put the screws in which forms thresds in the wood. Take the screws out turn the sponson on its side and wick some ca into the holes and let it dry. After it dries attach your turn fin. As long as you don't take them out and back in over and over you should be good. I have had mine in for a year with no problems.I'm building my first jae 12 and I've heard some guys say not to use the supplied wood screws to mount the turn fin. What should I use. Any suggestions and pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The screws will backout on you after your first run. Heres what incerts were using. Drill into the wooden dowls and screw that brass insert into the dowls, also put epoxy around out side of the insert so that will not ever backout on you.Martin? That sounds so formal B) Anyway Ron, I kind of correlated the JAE with the way the .45 Jaguar sponsons on one that I built some years back. It had dowels, too. I really wanted to put T-Nuts in them but the sponsons came pre-built. I ended up putting insert those, too.
dont like marty idea because in time that darn backer will come lose.. Its like the second gen MISS BUD 1/12 proboat hydro's .. the motor mounts engine wall use those and those dam thing came loss when I'd try to unbolt the rubber mounts.Had to rip the sides walls out of that hull and make new ones. CA Idea wont last long neighter in time do to moister factor and screws will backout. All the Threads I'd been seeing guys using these small brass inserts with no proublems.and these inserts dont hardly anything.I prefer what Jim said I 've done what he said no problems of striping yet. Weight wise pretty light
.I f you strip hit one more time with CA
