Andy - You could engrave your name on the head and get more than double for those engines on ebay
That is a good deal you are offering with the O/B engine.

Tim.

I don't care who's freakin name is engraved where. I wouldn't pay that kind of money(even if i could)...

Ken,

I'd have to wonder what the hell makes this engine so special...... I mean, if Mario can make an engine this strong, why doesn't he PRODUCE an engine this strong?

HMMMMMMMM????????

Thanks. Brad.

Much of being successful in on-road racing depends on staying power...not just plain power. Quality of materials and reliable power means everything….you might as well not spend the effort and driving time to go to the race if you’re going to bring a cheap motor. Most boat motors I’ve seen would go home in a bodybag if they were subjected to a solid qualifier….probably wouldn’t even make it to a 45 minute main....much less through a 45 minute main  .

I think it’s evident by the auction that: people will pay top dollar for the comfort of knowing their motor will go the distance for them.

That NRD motor has some unique features that make it a superior motor compared to the Run-of-the-mill $700 R1wc motors…it’s evident that someone was willing to pay for it. I bid $500 on it myself knowing full well I wouldn’t be high bidder....I also only bid $500 because after all Its FLEA_BAY

Kevin is correct...how many of you guy's have boat motors that will run for 3 15 minute qualifing runs, plus practice time and then a 1hr main...and then almost every weekend for a full 15 race season...the down side is a piston/sleeve and rod will run 250+....

Don't get me wrong, boat motors make tons of power, but it's only asked to do it for 5 minutes...

The scary part is if you ever go to an 1/8 scale on road World Championship the factory teams have not 3 or 4 of them but cases of them...20 to 30 a case!!!! I would love to see a guy like Kevin with his engine knowledge hook up with a guy like KHM [Karl Heisn Meister] from NovaRossi and build a boat motor!!!!

U can scrap the "for 3 15 minute qualifing runs "

We ( europe FSR V ) run Qualifications : 2 X 20 mins ( it used to be 30 ) and then B & A final : 30 mins

So .............

But i think you build your motors for reliability and not for sprints...some of the engine mods that i have seen on boat motors would probably kill an on-road engine in 10 minutes...but man would they be a fast ten minutes!!!!

I'm not saying car motors are better....i think the design and materials make them cost more and perhaps the class...heck i have 3 of them, i wish they were a h**L of a lot cheaper!!! Here's something else to consider...the last nationals we ran my team mate had a bad start in his qualifier so he raced all three heats....that put him in the "C" main which he won [30 minutes] than he bumped up to the "B" main which was run directly after [so fresh fuel and tires] which he won [45 minutes] moving him up to the "A"main [fresh tires again] for another 45 minutes [out of 1hr] before the clutch expiired so a total of 2hrs run time on the same motor. That same motor ran the rest of the season!!!!

From what I've seen, it looks like the FSR guys are running the Novarossi's, RB's, Rossis and some CMB's. I'd be interested to know from an FSR racer if any other motors will withstand the abuse of that type of racing.

IMHO. I think it's some of those same qualities that make a motor desirable from a sprint-style racers perspective too.

Kevin , its more likely , the fsr guys are running cmb , cmb , cmb , some nova , rb rossi's , os ( talking about the nitro engines )

Maybe our engines aren't sprint types but our engines are under load every second during the race .

Cheers ,

B

I forgot to mention , some kalistratov , some picco .

i think that about 80% uses cmb , depending on wich class .

This thread brings back some memories.... There was a time boat engines were asked to go 20 minutes or more at a time.. it was called offshore racing very popular in the late 70's. The club we had in Lansing MI would put on a big offshore race and we would draw entries from all over (including the infamous Baltimore club).. 3D hulls as far as you could see...lol No other reason to put 16 ounces of fuel in a 20 boat... I used to run some pretty heavy flywheels, too.. if you spun out, it helped keep the engine running...lol The race format was real simple.. 20 minute heats, Le Mans start, total number of laps run...
