Hey Danny,
80 is cookin! May I ask what prop is on the boat in the pic of it on the water? Looks like an ABC. I spy a PWW in the pic of the boat on the stand, but looks like a 2 blade bronze prop in the water.

Set the boat on flat surface with the bottom of the transom 7/8” off the surface amd the bottom of the strut flat on the surface. . And set the turn fin level with the surface. Run it carefully at first as it could be loose depending on how much lift the prop has. But it should track straight and not be tight to the water making it easier on the engine. Make laps and tweak away.
It is a very easy boat to make run.

Did you cut any vent holes in the canopy at all? Also curious about drain holes in the sponsons. I have them in my backlash but I don't want to drill anything extra that I don't have to.
 
No holes in the sponsons. Definitely vent the cowl. And put a foam tape where the cowl meets the boat.
I’m not worried about water getting in while running so I don’t care about having drains for it. Any water that goes in will drain out the transom where the push rod exits when I hold the boat up and down.
 
It certainly doesn’t hurt to cut vent holes, just keep them away from the carb so water doesn’t splash in and kill the motor. I don’t have vent holes and don’t have problems with airflow. It gets in somehow. I’m with Danny, I see absolutely no reason for drain holes in the bottom. As long as the boat is on plane, very little water will seep in. Once it is just floating out there, it comes in the pushrod hole so make sure you have plenty of floatation and like he says, hold the boat with the pushrod hole to the ground and let it drain out. You could try putting a pushrod seal on the inside where the rod exits if you want, otherwise, if you did a good job on the radio box, then there would be no reason to worry about the water.
