Its not the first time this has came to lite.when the outrigger was born the older hydro design gave way.now we have sport class.By name its called a step mono so it should be classed with in the rules we have now.If the hulls in that class cant win like stan said dont punish him for ingenuity.

When we say foul on design of hull what about the motor an prop gurus that design better preforming motors or props. I say great work guys keep us on our toes.

Ken
Nice try but kinda off base. The sport hydro classes grew out of the original and still extremely popular sport 40 class, nothing more, nothing less.

I think the best thing I did this year was get into Sport 40.
Jim

Can I ask why?
easy to find a well set up boat for sale for not much money; the boats are fast but a lot smaller than 1/8 scale so I don't feel as "cramped" on some ponds, and it's easily one of the more popular classes in D2.

Kinda looks like Sport 40 came about because some like the looks of the 3 point hydro an not be to scale.3 point hydro was no longer was competitive with the Outrigger.so a class was born sir
Sport 40 grew out of scale and for the longest time was referred to as the "poor man's scale class", but nice try anyways.

In the mid and late 70's we raced SPORT 60 hydro here in Florida.

Yes, Pinckert's glass hydro (Thunder boat) was the hull of choice for the class. All were powered by OPS 60's on a straight stack. 40% nitro, 1467 prop and they ran about 60 mph.

With a lot of the mono classes dying at local races.... I would like to see a Sport 90 Class in IMPBA.

About 25 to 30 years ago I tried to make wings and steps legal on a mono but was shot down at the board meeting. I was told that Andy Brown was adament about no wings allowed on a mono. Your opinion held up well Andy if that was actually your opinion. Who knows. I am sure your name gets thrown around a lot like mine and we are unaware of the words others speak. The steps issue was shot down because if there are steps on a mono it is no longer a mono by definition. A mono by definition in the rule book must be one continuous wetted surface. The Offshore class is a specialty class where you can run whatever the full size offshore boats are running. It is a class that allows all the new ideas to be put to the test, so there is the place to be creative and keep up with the times.

Yes, that is true John. When it comes to our IMPBA "MONO" class. The rules need to stay as they are. Pure and simple. Otherwise people will push the rules to the point that a mono would look like a rigger. They already fudge the rules on strakes.

I am all for a separate type of Mono class that allows wings and steps within a confined set of rules. I did not know the Offshore class did allow for that. That is great! Gives a place for experiment that can actually be raced!

Since offshore is a combined mono and cat class it makes sense to allow steps just like the full size boats. After all, the cats have steps. But yes..........experiment and be up with the times in that class.

Ok...Very clear here that the mono is going to suffer....Steps in Offshore have been there for 25 years, yet no one has made a hull for it.

IMO..What Jerry did was turn the lite on....All I am asking is can we move forward, in heat racing with the technology that is available

to US. As much as the technical advancements that have come "From" us...R/C boating

I have posted pics to two thread for us all to see.
