Back in the late 60's when we first printed the IMPBA rule book, John Bridge and I stood face to face in his basement and argued this. I can't believe it's still going on. I wanted to just define the mone/runabout and anything else was a hydro!!!!!! Wow little did I know that there would be so may different developments in hull design!!!!! Now lets deal with what's in front of us, you can't get rid of the past and if you ignore future you have your head in the sand!!!! I don't think IMPBA is about that so lets just look at what is in front of us and deal with the best possible solution to make model boating a better place to play. I'm sure Don will give it his best and he will involve as many of our member as possible with his solutions as possible in the future!!!

Thanks, John
I have always thought that way too John. "If it's not a mono it's a hydro". And that still holds true today for our standard IMPBA "hydro" class.

We have developed other hydro classes over the years, such as scale and the various sport hydro classes that have specifics with respect to hull design. This where the Hydro tech is needed.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Winter Nitro Champs John!

A "Step mono" class could be interesting. The NAVIGA FRS-V's use steps. I do not know what the hull/step limitations are, but it might be an interesting endeavor to try. Something new like that may stir a little creative production and keep John and Don busy teching out new hull designs. What do you think guys?

Maybe something like anything goes as long as the center keel, at the transom, is the lowest point on the hull at running attitude.

Come on now...If she is within the rules as they are written. She is legal. Just because someone is running a stepped mono in the Multi Engine Hydro class and is winning, lets not punish him or them. Should make people wanna work harder and step up and beat ANYBODY with a stepped mono.

If somebody ran a 21/45/67 stepped mono in the rigger class ...I would have to race them, and I have no problem with the rule book. Why should Twins be any different in the Hydro rule book. JMO

Now if it was not fast as stink no one would care................................LOL

That mono is kicking my hydro's butt ................WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA........

Its not the first time this has came to lite.when the outrigger was born the older hydro design gave way.now we have sport class.By name its called a step mono so it should be classed with in the rules we have now.If the hulls in that class cant win like stan said dont punish him for ingenuity.

When we say foul on design of hull what about the motor an prop gurus that design better preforming motors or props. I say great work guys keep us on our toes.

Congrats Don although its not a job its a non paid position. Soon the calls of members day dreaming of weird and crazy ideas will flow your way. good luck

Nice try but kinda off base. The sport hydro classes grew out of the original and still extremely popular sport 40 class, nothing more, nothing less.

I think that would be John Finch's (the Techincal Director for Mono) area of jurisdiction...

I wondered when that was going to come up! LOL!! And FWIW I think the no wings on monos is a stupid rule as well. If ya want to talk about being like real boats wings appeared on real off shore monos YEARS ago (think Super Hawaii).

Sport 40 grew out of scale and for the longest time was referred to as the "poor man's scale class", but nice try anyways.

Hello Chuck...If my post was felt like it was directed towards you it was not. There are Grey areas that might need to be addressed in several classes. As in any sport people are always STRETCHING the Rule book as far as the English language will allow us. I hope to see you soon, miss seeing you at the races.
