Has the Safety ever been considered In F class Racing & the number of boats per heat?? Many of the lakes we race on have narrow front straightaways and the #6 Buoy and the bank relationship are narrow on many lakes. It can become much worse on a low water level lake. Strange no one has ever considered a MAX Boats per class rule?? especially in the High Mph classes.... what do you consider to be safe & actual Racing? 5,6,7??

I think a fixed number should probably be set for all lakes. Like in NASCAR there are different size tracks but the same size of field.I like 6.

Atl is going to be "6" Twins,"7" F rigger,"7" E rigger, and "8" D rigger per heat.... That sounds like FUN to me,gonna be a LOT of fast boats there in every class.

Six is plenty. Been to some races were they ran upwards of eight boats it was allfull. And with the bigger twin gas boats and long block motors they use up even more space.Scoring six boats is plenty. And most of the drivers stands do not support 16 people.

we ran 8 in unlimited in hobart a few yrs ago.. my 67 in the same turn with 3 twins i couldn't see.. just hope it came out the other end.

my opinon that is to much.

twins is the most out of control class, lots going on and no time for anything.. either for the drivers or the callers of the race.

there will be people that say quit whining and run them.. them are the same people that are fine with it till there boat gets hit then they complain the rest of the weekend about to many in a heat

6 should be max.

Nails is right. I've been to a number of races where drivers had to wrestle pitmen out of the way to get on the stand.

Not a good situation when other drivers and pit guys are slam dancing with a guy trying to drive his 80mph boat.......

As Gas Director, I have limited heats to a six boat per heat limit at the Gas Nats. IMPBA can run up to nine but that is mayhem.

I think 6 boats per heat for a rigger is plenty, even for the 21's they are getting to fast for 8 boats per heat, some mono heats should also be held to 6 boats per heat.

Just and old guys opinion...

The rules were written back when boats were going 1/2 as fast as we run now. In my opinion ALL classes should be limited to 6 boats max just as much for the eyes in the CD tower as well as the drivers/pitmen. And I agree with others how most drivers stands cannot comfortably and often safely accomodate 16 people at one time.

I have seen them here in Florida run like 10 Gas boats at one time what a disaster waiting to happen Robert

Six boats unless agreed to by the drivers of that class/heat
Jerry,

Making that decision at race time does not work when setting up a race and it's heats. That needs to be planned before the race is advertised. Limiting boat numbers will also limit the total entry numbers for the race. It becomes a double edged sword. Reducing the boats in a heat can make the CD work easier as well as less carnage for the racers. The racing can be improved as well not having to dodge dead boats each lap. But then racers gripe about not getting into a race, especially a major one. It is a tough balance to consider. Each race site is different. Some sites have the room to do 8 boat heats and some do not. It needs to be site specific decided by the clubs hosting the races and not legislated at the national level.
