I like my 21 size Hummmmingbird

Evert time I take it out . it`s a pleasure to race.

Jim Benns builds a KQQL Hull.

"And give Preston his due as well. He has benefited from being close friends with Kentley and will not settle for being second rate. He also has exceptionally fast boats including the fastest 40 rigger I have ever seen. And he has the driving skills to match. Stu Barr and Preston are neck and neck and I see both of them and Kentley each year. What a treat! Almost good enough to pay fees to watch. Come to think of it I do, called entry fees!"

I have the pleasure of having both Kentley & Preston as good friends. There is no question that Kentley is the king of speed with 20 hydros, you should see his record trial runs!! Preston & I have duke'd it out all season long in the ODMBA club races in 20 hydro & yet Kentley can pop up 2 weeks out & spank us both, hat's off to ya KP! B)

Another great match up at the club races has been Preston & John Finch in 40 hydro. It's too bad John spent this race trying to get his prop right on his 40 since he busted up the only good one he had the week before. Watching Preston & John goin' wide open side by side down the back stretch is a sight to see for sure.

I hope all you I/W guys can return next year as this is always a great race. :D

Have the 67 and the original cowl (about a year or so old) was a piece of garbage (only complaint with the boat)... Still havent made a new cowl but wondering what was being supplied with them now....
Craig,

weren't you going to get one made from Ian's mould? I know Ian doesn't like 'glassing - maybe thats the problem....

Tim.

KB,

Your boat is looking very good. My boat will be a few weeks he is building Bill M. a boat. I did order my hardware today. When are you going to hit the water? Bill

I am in the process a new Road Runner Rigger, Why are you changing the motor mounts?

Mike
I prefer the rubber mounts to the nylon bolt system for two reasons.

First the nylon bolt system does not positively locate the engine so its alignment with the shaft tubing is not guaranteed. Secondly the noise transmission especially on the standard Hummingbird mount is very high in comparison.

The first reason is enough for me to change the mounts.

Tim,

May get around to an Ian cowl but as it looks like I will miss Adelaide this year I might have to wait till November to get a cowl.... I am just pissed that such a good boat came out with such a WOS cowl... I also have the Stinger cowl moulds so I might play with one of those.... although really the Hummingbird cowl should be a USEFUL COWL!!!!!!! Thats why I was asking in here if the 67 cowl had changed coz I would prefer an original Bird Cowl if available....

Not yet bro....I have it ready but it's not set up yet. I've been side-tracked by a high-priority project at my house  ......Next weekend is looking good though

I thought I asked this the other day but I don't see my post but what happened to the hummingbirdhydro web site. Scott

I checked with KP and he uses the supplied motor mount on his 21. So there is really no need to change the stock mount other than if you want something a little prettier.

We have worked out a method of using the Speedmaster mount and Jim will probably be offering this hole pattern in the future.

OK...I'm finished and ready to get my hat handed to me by Kently, Preston, Jim, Don and others

weighs in at 4lb 3 .5 0z dry (seems a little heavy any feedback would be appreciated)

I started the motor for the first time this evening in the hull and I'm thinking the stock mount is fine, but the carbon fiber tub is so rigid that you could see some noise issues if you have any balance issues in your motor/flywheel.

Maybe some of those softer wood tubbed boats have a better means of absorbing frequency?

After seeing how well this hull builds up and the stats of this hull….I can definitely say that given the opportunity to choose between this hull and others the choice was easy for me. I’d like to say thanks to Jim Benns for his help and support during the build.

Bill........are you ready to rumble?

KB,

Your boat looks great Kevin, you must of used a lot of clearcoat to get the weight

up. We like to try and keep our 21 boats between 3 1/2 and 3 3/4 pounds. Your

boat will still run well at 4 pounds 3 ounces. You might want to trim the top of strut

blade off so it is flush with the top of the bracket. You should weigh everything

that goes on your boat as it is very easy to get the weight up fast. What is the rear

prop weight on the boat? It should be under 12 ozs. We have found a few

awesome propellers for the boat that I gave to my friend. It should run in the

60's though, even at that weight. Maybe all the colors added the weight

A little humor about the colors Kevin. I bet the weight is all in the clearcoat.

What kind of switch is that on the boat? Just a little hint: H-7 or 1450 trimmed

for Nova Rossi 21. I think you will find that 45mm is about the right size prop

for that boat. Good Luck Testing!

Let us know how it runs?

Thanks,

Mark Sholund
