I am just looking on making my own design sponsons and rigger back sponsons/shoes.

These will be for a 43" to 58" long rigger tub.

What I am looking is on plans, any ideas on step by step building good quality wood sponsons. I will make my own design. I am just learning...

Thank you.

Luis.

Make the tops and insides 90 deg. to one another for easy references . Use balsa block as a core or hard brown Klegecell foam . Some use blue insulation foam as well depending on the size boat . You will have to add a piece of aluminum or some aluminum inserts inside the right sponson for fin attachment . Thread size for fasteners depends on the size of hull you are building . You will have to make some fixturing (alignment block for the boom tubes ) to keep everything straight and true .

Google Firefighter boats for another way to build sponsons . Use 6061 - T -6 Drawn tubing , .058" wall for your boom tubes to start , much cheaper to buy and to replace .

Luis I have some 8" thick pieces of blue foam I got from Sea Ray R&D when I was there.

Have made a few sponsons from scratch.

Give me a call and stop over when you have time will show you the ropes.

Having a good drawing helps me a ton. I use and recommend www.deltacad.com. they say it is the worlds easiest cad and it likely is. you can draw it up and print it out full size with a regular printer.
