Read about the internal stinger here and I want to give it a try. Several questions:

1. Can I use the K&S aluminum tubing that telescope into the tuned pipe stinger?

2. How do you attach it? Can I use JB weld?

3. Will it change the pipe length?

4. How does the noise level compared to a muffied pipe? And power?

Thanks,

i would use brass k&S tubing,,,

yes it can be jb welded in,, it works very well.

noise level may drop a couple db but nothin significant

hmm,, power,,,well that depends on if you have the stinger diameter and length correct..

could take several attempts to find the proper length and diameter...

I'm no expert but have done a couple of pipes.

Aluminum should work but I prefer brass. JB Weld works but make sure that the stinger in clean inside otherwise it won't stick. One pipe that I did I had to drill it out just a touch to get the tubing in there so that cleaned it up.

Drill a small hole near where the tubing enters the pipe so that it will help to drain out oil or in the case of a dunking, water.

Alden replied while I was typing this up.

Thanks Alden, Ron,

I was hoping the internal stinger would reduce engine noise a lot so that I would not need a muffler. A couple of dB is quite significant but ultimately it is my ears who will be the judge ;-) If it reduced noise, this would make for a very compact installation for sport 40 as there is no muffler sticking out under the cowl.

Take a piece of brass tubing and flair one end and then sharped it (will increase air flow) and then insert it in the big end of the pipe. Very little is needed to hold the stinger in place., a little drop of RTV will work. If you use JB weld it will be hard to remove if you want to take out the stinger for some reason. If you think you have found the proper size and will not be changing it again, JB weld if you like but not needed.

I am installing one today but I am going to make one change. Instead of drilling a drain hole in the pipe, I will drill a drain hole in the brass tube where the converging cone meets the stinger. Just think that this would make for a nicer installation and water/oil can still drain out.

May even fire up the engine and see how much it muffles the noise.

Yup, you want the hole in the brass tube as shown in the picture.

Think you'll be surprized how quiet it is! No power loss either!
