Paul is off to race FE with the nitros on Wednesday morning. Good class to start with....Unlimited Mono. Why not start near the top? :p

Doug Peterson and Klaus Mueller are heading for the German SAWs Tuesday.

Have a blast guys.

How does this work exactly? Does Paul have to mill around and hit the start? Don't they use a 5 min and 1 min gun type race?

thanks,

Steve

I could if I wanted to..

LOL

my understanding is we have to be on the water no later then 30 sec before the start of the race.. I don't see in the rules where it says we have to stay moving so we could park in the corner and get a straight line shot at the start line.

HAMMER DOWN guys... and ENJOY!

Hi Steve,

It's a 5 round 5 lap race, you have to be launched by the 30 second clock so we should be able to make 1 mill lap and be on the clock. ;)

Paul.

No, you're just such a modest guy that you don't share these great happenings in your life with all us lunchpails.

I could have missed the news somewhere too.

Actually, it's Paul's fault. LOL I don't recall him mentioning that other FE'rs were going.

See, there you go being modest again, Kelly. :p

I'm sure you'll all put on a great show.

Just an FYI

IMPBA rule book section G page G-4 under heat racing rules.... 6 laps for the 1/3 mile course and 8 laps for the 1/4 mile course.

Hey Electric guys...

Thanks for the show first off, at the Sardine...had a good time last Saturday.

To answer the question about the mill, a boat must be launched no later than 30 seconds before the start of a race. Then, the boat must continue around all buoys and not jump the start before the clock hits Zero.

As for sitting still, true, there is no rule that I am aware of that specifically says that must keep moving forward, but I would strongly encourage for your boats and safety sake, you to keep moving, because 60+ mph open monos close very quickly on something sitting still.

Also, I would hope in the 'spirit' of the event, that the electric boats would 'act' like a nitro boat.

As previously posted, 6 laps after the start on a 1/3 mile course. You must go all the way around if you jump the start. Buoy cuts, rubs, bumps, hits each count as 50 points each. If you cut all three in one corner, it is a one lap penalty.

There are many different rules between ele and nitro I could go on and on, but again, I encourage you to ask around before going out there.

I am really interested in the results...I don't mean to come across as negative...I want this 'experiment' to be fair and fun for all parties, as I think it will be.

Good luck guys, wish I could be there to see it.

Hi Guys,

Yep, Kelly was right on with the 6 lap thing. Total 7 laps would do it getting on the water right at the 30 second clock.

Am I reading this correct? A 2 mile race? This is not the standard sprint right?
Hey Howard, you read it right. This is a standard nitro/gas sprint race.

Also, I would hope in the 'spirit' of the event, that the electric boats would 'act' like a nitro boat.
Boy, I hope my FE boats don't act like nitro boats or I'm in trouble....

Don't worry Garrett, we have a good handle on what we need to do and we'll put on a good show. I'm running 2 gas boats, a 43" mono and a 41" cat. Both are more than capable of keeping pace. We're all going a day early to watch how you guys do it and get the clock/mill times straight. I for one won't be sitting still on the course but I won't be running ballz out either during the mill. ;)

Paul.

Just an FYI...the "1/3 mile" is for two laps, a standard nitro race is ONE mile in length...the 1/4 mile course, same thing, 8 laps = one mile

Can anyone tell me the history behind naming it 1/3 mile oval when it's actually a 1/6 of a mile long?

Just curious.

Good question Doug...

I will have to do some research, but if memory serves, it was based upon the record books, IMPBA having a two lap record for all classes...thus reflecting the distance...

Let me see if I can find out for sure.
