This is what we did. Later versions were covered with Monokote and pivoted with enough friction to hold position. Mike's aero design looks really great, but probably isn't necessary, even for SAW. The later boats ran an exposed exhaust.

Thick rudders probably have better control for heat racing and aluminum needs the thickness for strength. Our SAW rudders were heat treated steel wedge shaped knife blades. We tried a lot of things to fly the boat. The air traps in the picture were too much and the prop blew out.

That wouldn't be Jock Peden's Son? Dr Jock is an old friend of mine and I didn't know if he was still running toy boats.

Hey Marty is Jock one of the guys that used to make the unlimited and then go on to LeMans? I did a lot of props for that group in Australia. They were great fun at the unlimited, the Red Roof was wild.

Thanks, John

He is know as Dr Jock and builds the full sized race boats. I have know him for 25 years. He came over to run in the Hydro Masters or the Indy Unlimited. Can't remember which.

Marty,

Yes, Sam is Dr. Jocks son.

Not sure if you heard, Jock passed away a few years ago. He was a very, very talented modeler.

yes Marty it is his son, I did have in my possession a stick boat for s.a.w but never used it, the boat would amaze many of its build qualities , jock died some years ago .

Typing at the same time Tim. But also jock had made a supercharger for a 3.5 k&b engine which featured in a magazine here in aus .

I still have dr jock linear mixture controls , and exhaust throttles he made.

It is not only water having higher density, also the forces and drag are increasing exponentially with speed.

What works at 80mph could be hard for 100. What works at 100 could be hard for 120.

Since we are working between to mediums it is is way more tricky. Cause in the end a boat has to go through the whole speedrange. If you have something right for 100 it could happen you never reach it...Cause you're sticking in a phase between and the water won't let you go.

Modify it that it can go you eventually never reach the 100 cause for that speed it is to much.

I am very sorry to hear that. Last time I talked to him, we were going to do some custom props since he had a CNC machine, a program and the urge to do something special. I didn't hear from him for a while, now I know why. What a fun guy, and VERY smart. He stayed at my house when he came over for a race with his wife. We had a ball talking boats and generally cutting up.
