Hello Grim. My name is Jeff Barnes I'm just getting back into rc boating after 25 years I picked up a 4px with R324SBS receivers I have futaba and hitech digital mid grade servos just wondering what reciever battery I should be using thanks Jeff

Hey Grim have you had a chance to use the GPS telemetry sensors? What’s the difference between the SBS-01G an -02G
I’m curious if it will work in my scales. Thanks Mike

yes.. I have both..

Yes. they will work..

The 02 has better resolution. Truth is I can not tell the difference. If we used the altitude portion of the sensor then we might be able to see it..

I like them both.. they work great!

How did you mount it? I read that it can’t be sealed, so no radio box? Double sided tape on the hull where the wind doesn’t hit it head on?, just a guess.

Mike,

if you use Facebook you can go to a group called..

Futaba USA surface radio support and tips

and see a tutorial I did on an install. In that you will see the GPS unit and how it was installed.

I Should go on to say.. if you have a Carbon Fiber radio box lid or cowl.. you likely will not have success having the GPS in the box.. having said this I have been fully surprised by the performance of this GPS (not the first ones i have used).

Grim I joined the group but was not able to find your tutorial, do you have a link?
I’m aware of carbon fiber causing issues with signal so that’s not an issue on my boats.

Joern Thank you for your feedback on this.

I fully expected the Futaba GPS to not function with my carbon fiber radio box lids, but I tried it anyway. I tried GPS units in 6 different boats with carbon fiber lids using 6 different GPS sensors and every one worked fine. I mounted the GPS curved side up to the lid with Velcro away from metal (pipes and brackets).

no cutout window in the carbon fiber above the gps ? I did mine with a cutout..but if not needed that would be great!

I am using 0.040" carbon fiber from Dragon Plate which may be thinner than other people use, but because it is so stiff it seems to be plenty strong. You can see in the pic how I mounted it. Depending on where I am at, it sometimes takes a minute or so to find the satellites when I first turn on the power, but after that it re-connects immediately every time I turn the power on again. I am also mounting the diversity receivers upside down on carbon lid, which I am told is bad, but here again I have had zero problems in the 5 years I have been doing it with carbon fiber lids.
