@Dean Johnson and others in D4.......

Here are a couple pictures of Dean's father Greg Johnson and the tunnel he used to run back in the day. Pictures are circa 1985 and taken at Potawatomi Lake and Woods in Wheeling, IL. We burned many gallons of Go Pop 25% fuel back then (when fuel used to be in the metal gallon cans). You can also see his original Futaba wheel radio which he was still using as of a couple years ago.

John Starks plans bought from Boat Modeler Magazine. Built it in 1991 I think, enlarged plans for a K&B 3.5 outboard. Original plans were for Electric.

Always loved the look of this Design!

My first boat was a Tom's Cat. Sure do miss the boat.

How about these two?

I traded my Steve Muck "Lil Lightening" for a Pro Line 4-channel airplane radio system at a Northwest Hobby Show. I know the guy who designed the boat shown in the bottom box.

Hi,

some Prather ,the 21 size first tunnel and the 45 size first size and design.

The 21 has to be modified as the rear sponson are going up to let the tunnel run at the first step. Ad some epoxy plates to correct this and than it run flat. After fisiting John Broadbeck Circus Circus Casino i give it a Circus Circus collering.

WOW! Very cool, Tony! Thank you for sharing. I don't recall that hull, but he still has that radio.

There was a lot of tunnel racing on the west coast. Our club still races a few 3.5 nitro tunnels with the P spec boats. Below are more pictures.

Hey Grim,

I think I recognize you, Big Bryon and Squeak, would you mind naming everyone in the pic? Sorta envious of you and everyone at the club pond back then, I know you all had a lot of good times there! Just getting harder to test anywhere now, but I haven’t given up and test when I can.

Gene,

How did the boat run for SAW? Almost getting the itch to start making my own again.

Circa 91. My two FROG designed play boats. One is ABS and the other wood, which is which??? Both are powered by K&B, Garcia pipe and use exhaust throttles. One has a Gardner XXL while the other is the brass slider.

My favorite tunnel from back in the day was the original XT120. It had that scale look and was very competetive back in those days!!! This setup won many many major races!!!!!

cool.. good shares...

Its hard to let go of an old boat like that.. I have a HELL of a time letting go of old crap.

Ron.. do you still have the boat? I have the protype Villian and the Villian Stage One boat (won the 2000 Internats with that boat).. such good mems.

The old boat had an 8907 on it that "leaked" a little..lol.. would run an honest 47mph though the stock lower unit.. I have no idea how many upper cases I put on that power head. Those RPMs ate that upper case all the time..lol
