Fuel Filter question

I filter my fuel before it goes into my tank too but I still end up with crap in the filter that's in the boat. I check them at the start of every season and usually find something like this depending on how much I run that year. However, I don't use a filter on the pressure line like Terry mentioned above, but I'm going to try it to see if that's my problem.
