This is an inexpensive radio that has alot of good hardware features,.. unfortunately the software they wrote for the radio is extremely limited. For a grand total of I think $125, I have a decent 2.4g system, with linear 3rd channel, all the important functions for boats, I think you can even mix in a little 3rd channel needle function with the rudder to go rich in the corners, (not positive though) 3 receivers, and the hardware to to the hack,..

I don't think you can buy that functionality for that price any other way. The software hack give this radio the functionality of the much more expensive radios. quite a few serious boaters are now using them with the hack.. without the hack the 3rd channel is just a switch,.. and the endpoint move with the center trim on the rudder and throttle..

so,.. it's good hardware when you get it,.. the hack brings in all the functionality of a much more expensive radio.

got this set up in first boat tonight.. working well.. still a bit of a challenge getting through menus.. the display is abbreviated and so you have to know what it means..

thanks guys for the help

This is a great deal for the money!

At one time you could buy the GT3B radio (including 1 rec) from Overkill rc. with the mod all done for $50.00. I haven't checked lately so it might have changed. A good forum to check info on these radios is rctech. It has hundreds of pages on these radios as well as many other topics. Austin Huchison of Overkill rc (also known as "losiboy") is active there answering questions. His main reason for modifing these radios was to serve his need for his rock crawler buggies. If you not familiar with rock crawlers they are very complex with multi adjustable suspensions, articulated steering, dual speed controls etc. This mod takes an inexpensive radio from 3 channel to 8 channel and adds lots of options including a 64 model memory.

I just rechecked the rctech website. All the info is in the radio area. I made a mistake on the info for Austin Hutchinson at "Overkill rc", his online name is losikid67.

Thanks, John

Is there any real advantage to a fun runner making the upgrades as far as programs. I'm going to do the bearing mod.

I'm getting conflicting reports. One guy on rctech is saying to use 3rd channel for fuel mix use the dual rate on the 3rd channel and jog wheel for lean to rich which eliminates need to hack. Those of you with experience on this radio, your advice? I've got the stuff to hack but just can't seem to find the right place to get good info. Thanks!

Hi Mark,

I haven't been on rctech in a long while, I'll try to take a look to see what they're talking about. I don't have a "jog wheel" on my GT3B radios so the hack was needed to get the capabilities I wanted for 3rd ch. needle adjustment. I recall some of the people were taking a pot off older radios and installing them on the fly sky's (kind of an electrical & mechanical hack) and using a rotary dial for the 3rd ch. adjustment. Do you know what they mean by "jog wheel"?

Thanks, John

Not sure about jog wheel. Just quoting. Thanks for reply. Any other info would bench appreciated.
