Hi Guys,

If I wanted to use f-glass cloth & resin to repair a split seam, and I wanted to clamp the parts in place while it cured.............

What do I use to make sure the resin won't stick to the clamp?? I'm thinking wax paper......... is that OK, or is there something better??

Thanks, Bob the fool

wax paper will be fine

Make sure you clean the area really well before painting or applying more epoxy over the area...when you remove the wax paper, a very thin layer of wax will be left on the surface.

I often use Masking tape to hold the seam together, make sure the the two surfaces to be joined are abraided with coarse sandpaper and then thoroughly cleaned with acetone or similar.

I would use 30 epoxy instead of resin it sets up better in small quanity & is better adhesive.JMO

Parchment paper is actually even better than wax paper to keep adhsives from sticking to things. Find it in the area as wax paperat grocery stores.

For a small nick I'd use a carbide burr on a moto tool to V the chip to add some area to it for the repair to adhere to. Then chop up some fiberglass cloth to make some chopped glass fibers (assuming you have some cloth on hand, you can buy pre chopped fibers. Add the chopped glass to the epoxy until it is a paste like consistency. Use a popsicle stick or similar to apply it to fill the damage and leave it just a bit proud. When it cures sand it down, prime and paint. You might need a dab of body putty if you sanded deep scratches into the repair or if there are any bubbles in the resin.

PAUL THAT DID HELP PUTTING CHOPPED UP PEICES IN THE PUDDY ,, I HAD CLOTH AND JUST CHOPPED IT UP,, SAVED ME MONEY AND TIME ,, I USED A TONGUE DEPRESSER TO APPLY ,, IT IS STILL TO LOW ,, CAN I REAPPLY ANOTHER THIN COAT OR SHOULD I JUST USE A BODY FILLER NOW , IH HAS A SMALL LOW BELLY IN CENTER NOW,, I ALSO USED WAXED PAPER AROND AREA ,,

THANK YOU ED

You can apply more as needed, but you'll need to sand it to rough it up to get a good bond. As far as using body filler for the low spot, it depends on how low. I don't like using body filler for much more than 1/32" depression but there's no hard and fast rule. If it's an area subject to getting banged and knocked I'd use more chopped glass as it'll stand up to abuse better than body filler.

OK IT IS A SMALL DIVIT IN THE CENTER ,, IT IS A SPOT THAT IS LIKLY TO GET BANGED UP BEING ON THE FRONT ,, I WILL SAND ROUGH AND APPLY MORE ,,I WAS AFARID OF IT BONDING TOGETHER ,, THE CHOPPED CLOTH WAS A STEP I NEVER THOUGHT OF DOING , AGAIN THANK YOU ,,YOU ARE A BIG HELP ,,
