I just ordered the feigo 7xl motor and speed control the boat I am running is the winston eagle from bby boats it is 23 long 13 wide I am running a 42mm prop on it now will it work with this motor if not which one to start with, what kind of speed should I expect any info would be nice

How many cells do you plan on running

12=hot and you may want to start with a tad smaller prop

With the 7XL on 12 cell start with a x440 prop and go up from there

Your run time may suffer. The 7XL is a hot motor be careful to not over prop it or your ESC could suffer.

I would be checking the motor ESC and cells after a few laps with each prop.

Make sure they are not hot to touch. IF you have no concerns about cell life then x640 prop will make that hull move. I ran a 8Xl x640 prop on an old T-plus hydro and it was ballistic. Did no good for the cells though. Managed to get 4mins total run time till dump. Way more than 5 laps.

starting choice would be

12 cell 438 - 640 max

16cell 432 - 440 max

hope that helps

Hi Gasfreak,

If you have the chance to I would go with the 8XL, the 7XL wouldn't be my choice. Are you racing or sport running?

Paul.

I will be running 12 cells just for fun no racing only my buddys what is the difference in the 7xl and the 8xl speed and run time I have already ordered the 7xl I also ordered the castle creations speed control 80 amp does anyone know how many cells you can run on it with the bec disconnected please help

You can run up to 20 with the bec disconected but not with that motor. The difference is 300 rpm per volt, on 12 cells thats 3600 more rpm with the 7XL. The 8 XL is a hot motor on 12 cells, a 7 is smokin and needs a perfect setup or as said you will cook cells. Also keep the motor temp below 150F, use a cooling coil or your magnets will start to go south. You should also get a water cooling plate for the controller.

7XL is a 1 min setup, so don't push your run times. You may want to consider running 8 to 10 cells first.

do you mean it will only run for a minute lord I hope not did I screw up by getting this one or what boy I hope it will run longer than that if I run 8 cells or 10 cells would it still perform well with less heat what would you do the boat runs very good on the water not much wetted surface

keep your prop small at first. Maybe even an X440. The 7 XL is a good motor, but it's a sprint motor (i.e. racing 1 min heats). You'll love the speed, but your runtime will suffer, and heat will be an issue.

Whatever you try, bring your boat in frequently on it's first run to check for heat. It's a pain, but you have to do it. That way you know for sure what your set up is doing.

Also, keep in mind that sprint boats that run 1 min don't run out of batteries at 1 min. That's just the thresshold where heat can start to damage equipment. Roughly, a good sprint boat is running 60-70 amps, which will yield a run time on 3300's of about 2 min. But, running that many amps for that long will burn something up. Hence the 1 min comments.

To get good runtime out of that motor (and less speed), you would have to gear it. I don't think that's an option in the boat you have. But, maybe it's an option in the next boat you get!!

Who recommended your setup? If set up right, it would be a very competitive sprint boat. But, as mentioned, not for sport running.

David nailed it there. What you have there is a sprint setup, not for sport use.

If you want to set that boat up for some long runtime sport use, pickup a SS1 and rchydros controller (avail used usually for about $60-80 or new for $110-$115 (combo deals @ offshoreelectrics.com...RRH, etc.). With that type of setup (and right prop...you can run it till your 3300s or 3700s dump (10-12 minutes). Great for sport racing.

send me your 7xl and cuda80m, since you don't need it :)

Hey how much of an increase in run time would I get if I geared it 2 to 1 and run the same size prop I know I would lose some speed but may be just the ticket huh?????????????????????????

I've seen a Hacker 7 XL geared to about 1.5/1 with about an X642 make a 4 minute offshore race. It was a mono, and I think I'm pretty close to the ratio and prop that he was running. The same motor, geared more, ran 16 cells in a Q Offshore race as well. Just goes to show that a gear drive can get you the run time you want, and that you probably didn't waste your money on that motor.

4 minute speed in a brushless sport hydro? Low to mid 30's, depending on your setup.

Sprint setup?? Look out!! :D (in my O.J. voice)

I would exchange the 7XL for a 8XL. The WE 12c does not have a lot of room for gear drive and the CG needs to be 3.5 inches behind the transom. 12 cells is the best setup for the boat. I run a X642 in mine biut I run a 105 Speed Control. Start with the 440 and water cool the SC.

The boat is not great for the SS1 motor with out rear sponsons not enoughhull to pack ait and lift the prop has to do all the work.
