To be fair, I have watched guys make SAW passes at the IMBA Internats in the mid to upped 60's with screw down hatches, solid shafts and K&B 3.5 power.

My wife's 5 1/2 pound 21 Crapshooter with screw down hatch, solid shaft and K&B power recorded a speed of 54 mph at the Internats....and that was far from a first place SAW finish. Circa 1984.

I was quite surprised after coming back and seeing them tape down the lids does make it easier.but I though the screw down would make the hull more rigid you have to make sure when fasting the lid down it wouldn't twist the back part of the tub.

Yes Ken. Hull twist is a real issue. That is why we split the rx box into two compartments on the boats 45 and up. The deck surface between is a full 5/16" thick to facilitate securing the pipe bracket which save pipes and the chance of a ripped off rx lid.
