Hi guys! I spent a few hours over the summer setting up a tunnel for friends to play with so everyone could have a try when we went to the pond. I didn't have a hi torque servo to set it up with, so I used a standard Futaba servo just for setting up the cables. I usually use Hi tech servos( they are the same size) and planned to buy one for this rig. When the day came, I bolted in the new Hi Tech, hi torque servo fresh from the hobby shop and to the pond we went.

After telling a buddy about how easy it was to get started and how it was pretty simple to set up the radio gear, I started the boat and threw it in the water. My friend added about 3/4 throttle and starter a tight right turn..................and there it stayed........ round and round and round  ............. After the embarassment, we figured out the Futaba servo arm I used to set things up with didn't exactly fit the Hi Tech servo. It all looks good on the bench. but a little field testing proved otherwise. This may be common Knowlege to most of you, but it sure suprised me! ;)

Hi Bob,

This was discussed recently on the Villian forum. We discovered that Hitec have a spline all their own. I guess the manufacturers have to do something to make you buy more of their gear.

I've seen a lot of guys do the same thing as you. Only difference is there boats crashed! God forbid the servo companies use the same horns or the same wire configuration! LOL

This is so true, That darn futaba arm will fit just good enough to fool you. and when you switch to the hi-tech, if you use their arm you have to adjust things slightly to make it work. I have seen worse results from someone finding that out the hardway. At least the boat survived it ok. Ken

the other thing you hafta watch out for is JR's gear is reversed to futaba's [eg a futaba servo on a jr reciever will go reverse to the JR servo on the same reciever]......been there done that! :)

[mine didnt crash either though]

Joe
