Max, Thanks for you input. That is prety much what my train of though was. i am glad someone confirmed it.

Jeff those boats look cool. i can see why the one isn't good in chop. it almost looks like a flat bottom. did you also build the yellow one in the background?

i am still looking into how it will cost me to have the molds cut in resin board. i will let you know when i find out.

The yellow one is a dumas DV40 I picked up on e-bay.

I've been looking for pics of some of my previous boats, and found a few....now I need a scanner....doh! (It was before I had a digital camera)

..watch for them...

Not sure what the cost is quite yet. however the CAD time is free since in am doing it myself on my lunch break at work. :D

i hadn't planned on putting a skeg on the bottom. but that doesn't mean it is out of the question. What are the benefits & drawbacks of one? i would assume one benefit would be not sliding in the turns but a brawback would be increased drag. is this corect? ???

i have changed the vee angle to 20deg from John Finch's advice & moved the engine forward to 38% so the CG will end being on Aprox 30%

i have also changed the strakes so they are 2mm instead of 2.5mm like i orginally had them. So according to Hammer it should be a legal mono even it Japan. ;D

I don't know if anyone remembers this design? I got word today that the resin board that I need for the mold is getting accumulated at no cost for me. I am getting scraps form a model shop. ;D it is looking like the only cost I will have in this mold is the CNC time!!!

Here is a picture of the boat as the design is now if anyone is interested

I got my Resin Board today!!!

Now all I need to do is mount it to a backer board & have it CNC cut. if all goes my way, I might be able to get the pieces mounted this weekend!

I have been waiting a long time for this project to get moveing again!!

yep, i remember that thing!

Wade, i remember some of the earlier pics having strakes on the bottom....is that still the case? also, will you be making a cowl mold too?

Joe

Wade,

Soon you will be on your way to becoming a boat manufacturer! If nothing else, building, making and trying your own hulls teaches you a LOT about boats... 8)

Altimat:

I am not sure about the rules in the US, but I think that design would be illegal in Aus. My guess is illegal in the US too.

Ian.

Ian,

I wouldnt be too sure that is illegal... it is like a 'clinker' hull construction which as far as I know would be legal....

Craig

Ian, designing & building my own hull for the learning process was my original thought. If it works well enough, I might just build a few to sell. Only time will tell.

Wade,

Even if it doesnt work that well, by modifying it you should learn a lot about boat design and the next design you do should be a lot better! I designed a carnard hydro years ago, it didn't work very well. Although I never built a second version I did work out what the problems were for the first one, so a second version would have been a lot better.

Ian.

So far I have learned a lot about hull design theory, by asking question on different forums, & since I am going to have this CNC cut, mods should be easy. Just tell the machine to pick up from the same spot & go to town. ;D

Wade,

Are you going to make a plug first, or make a mould directly on the CNC?. When I was considering doing it I thought about making the mould directly to save one step so that changes and new designs would be faster to prototype.

Ian

I plan on making the mold direct on the CNC. Like you said, it saves a step, & makes engineering changes a lot easier!! ;D
