What's the difference between these two engines? Which one would be best in a 46" twin craft mono?
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas to all. What's the difference between these two engines? Which one would be best in a 46" twin craft mono?
Danny, can I buy the 101 Evo gold head new? I'm looking for only a new engine. Thanks for your reply. The motor that would be smartest is the 101 evo gold head.
The RS3 is a newer version and a great motor. But the evo will run just as good for less money.
The GPX is better suited for other markets.
Jeff, I plan on putting either the .91 RS3 M line or the 101 m line RS3 in a seaducer 47" or 49", my thought is go big or stay home on the boat length. I'm leaning towards the 101 m line rs3. It's the boat length that I'm unsure of. I have one boat, a Dumas Scarab 377, 40". The mono has an O.S.Max .46 VR-M., not modified. This is my first year into this so I am looking for advice. Which engine and boat length would you go with. I'd like to get something I can be somewhat competitive with in a couple of years when I learn more.so please give me your thoughts as to which direction YOU would take.If you want to stay .91, RS3 over GPX. You can also get the .91 RS3 version with the Mline crankshaft that the GPX has. The long crank Mline version has better crankshaft support ,better sealing of the crankcase with a rubber seal and does away with a steel spacer that is in between the crankshaft and PTO side bearing that wears with time and eventually has to be replaced. Even the regular RS3 .91 will be less work for you considering the water cooling is already one chamber like most people run even on monos. It also has hard coat anodizing on the backplate and depending on when the Goldhead 101 left the factory can have regular black anodizing. All good options though. Jeff Lutz

I'm sure after you re-read my post you'll see yhat my Dumas is my first boat and I'm looking at getting another boat, a seaducer either 47 inch or 49 inch. I will try contacting Charles Duke and ask his opinion as well. thank you for your reply.Greg your post seems to be a little confusing! Are you running a Seaducer or Dumas Boat? If your planning to run the Dumas boat going from a 46 to a 101 may not be your best plan.
I'm not sure that Jeff runs many mono's, he is a good source for engine questions. I see you live in Michigan, Charles Dukes is in that area and he races a 101 Seaducer.
You may have better luck asking questions in the Mono area. Lastly Jerry from Seaducer would help with your questions also. Best of luck.
Just curious if it’s your second boat and first year in boating how you decided on the most expensive nitro engine?Jeff, I plan on putting either the .91 RS3 M line or the 101 m line RS3 in a seaducer 47" or 49", my thought is go big or stay home on the boat length. Reading posts and asking questions. Is this a good choice of engines? From the questions I've asked and from what I read it is. At first I was looking at nova Rossi but then found out they aren't making marine engines. Then I thought about an o.s. max .91 but couldn't find them around either. So then I asked on a post and people told me about CMB which I never heard of. So then I started doing a little research and asked more questions and was told by Danny king that the 101 rs3 m line was the engine I would want.Just curious if it’s your second boat and first year in boating how you decided on the most expensive nitro engine?
Greg, Danny said the Gold Head EVO 101, The Motor that Charles Dukes runs is a Danny King prepped Gold Head 101, not the new RS3. The RS3 is alot more money.Reading posts and asking questions. I was more curious of your nitro engine experience other than the boat you mentioned. Didn’t want to see you spend 1500 bucks on the engine if tuning it might be an issue.
You are correct, it was Joe warren that mentioned the 101rs3 m line. He stated he didn't sell the 101 evo gold head. So am I back to hobby supplies or stuff barr? Thank God I have some time before I make a decision.Greg, Danny said the Gold Head EVO 101, The Motor that Charles Dukes runs is a Danny King prepped Gold Head 101, not the new RS3. Who's Jerry? Is that the name of the club you belong to, Saginaw club? Do they have a web site? I would like to come up there and watch some races next year.Greg I race with Charles a lot he's not on here much he runs the gold head 101 evo it's a ripper not sure what length seaducer he has Jerry will know FYI we run a lot of d monos in the Saginaw club that would be a great class to get started in just my opinion
Ok I'll do that. Thanks again to you and everyone else who has given me advice. This truly is a family hobby. Have a safe and happy new year. Talk to you in the spring time. Hopefully I'll have a new boat and engine to run.Jerry the owner of seaducer boats we race in Flint and Detroit also get with me in the spring and I'll send you our club schedule it will have the District 2 schedule on it also Happy New year Jeff Barnes
