Hey would any one know where I can find a small chome kit or any one that will chrome peices for me?

Any help will be great!

That seems like too much, Would thier be any one that has chromed befor and that is willing to finish parts for me?

You might try Precision Metal finishing in Mobile Alabama. Phone 334-432-0155 Fax 334-432-1083. I believe it's a small shop that mainly restores plating on furniture. I wouldn't send it to a big shop that specialises in custom cars and bikes. Too heavy handed. A word of warning though, chrome adds to the thickness of the item so once it's plated, it may no longer fit. Design accordingly. And thanks to the EPA, chromes not cheap. :eek: But you may cut down on the final price by doing you own polishing.

What's happening in God's Country. Looks like I'm going to make the Nats this year. Been a long dry spell. I'm living in the Memphis area now, so Jackson is kinda in my back yard. Hope to see you there. By-the-by, you know of anyone who might have 2000 series Picco Bluehead 45 parts (or whole engine) they don't want. I need a crank and back plate for my backup engine.

Mr. Bill is doing OK all considered. Emphysema really slows him down and restricts what he can do. He is certainly planning to hit the Nats as he is a member of the Jackson club. They have a site equivalent to Huntsville except for straightaway and is better protected from the wind, ergo... great 21 pond! You "hot shoes" with the big engines will have plenty of breathing room, but poor run-in/out for straightaway. I doubt there will be any records set in that regard. Prepare to gun oval. Last I heard they were on the fence about getting a survey, so "record" setting could be mute.

Can't wait! Setting records at the Nats is pretty hard to do in the heat these days, most of them are up there pretty good. I don't think it really matters if the pond is long for SAW, long as it's the same length for everyone. Looking forward to seeing you and Uncle Bill again!

Many moons ago we had a guy in St. Louis who used to flash chrome steel sleeves for us. All we had were ringed engines back then. We would take a worn sleeve and run a brake cylinder hone thru it a time or two. He would put 0.003 chrome on it. They came back looking like the were sprayed in the inside with grey auto primer. Lordy! After that all that would wear out was the ring, and that took forever! Never knew who actually did the work, but I think the "contact" might still be around as I'm not living in St. Louis anymore. With the advent of ABC piston/liners the need for services in that regard have come to a screeching halt. Not promissing anything, but I'll try to help you.

No, Thanks for the information. I beleve the cost for a mached P.S would be less than the chrome and the shipping alone with out all the elbo grease to polish the sleeve.

There is someone here in Australia that rechromes / hones worn liners and the price is cheaper than a new piston and liner and they work well. Let me know if you are interested and I'll forward his details on to you.

email paul on [email protected] and tell him what you need doing. He will be able to give you the pricing depending on what you need. The billet pistons he also does are a work of art.

Don't forget there is an exchange rate when talking Aussie $$$.

Billet refers to something turned in a lathe from solid bar stock...rather than cast in a mold.

Billet items don't suffer from the microscopic pores and the subsequent brittleness inherent in cast metals.
