Well went out for the first time with my new 45RS in my Cal-craft. Running real strong and handles great. Pulling a x452 bar cut and relieved. AB nitro pipe at 9 1/2 65 nitro.

Got to the last tank of fuel and did some tight turns to mess up the water and went in to a flat spin 3 revaluations. COOL! landed up right. Even COOLER.

Got to the boat and top half seam split on both sides 3/4 of the way down the hull.

Now what?!

Any suggestions?

David

one problem is that you are using the needle that came with the cmb motor do yourself a favor and get a unit from Don Ferrette and an os needle your life will get much easier. also u might want to lengthen the pipe to 10 1/2 try a 450 2 or 3 blade prop

Had it out to day and yes the pipe needs to be longer. It revs real high but if you try to throttle it comes of pipe and takes awhile before it get back on. It likes aP230 or a X450-2. I think with a shorter pipe it will get on pipe with a smaller prop. The only thing is should I run a small prop at high revs or a big prop at lower revs. only time and testing will tell.

As far as the needle goes don't seam to have any problems finding the tune on the fly.

look trim tabs seem wrong should change backward top mount w/ bolt also really junk at CMB 3rd remote needle valve because needle already rust or o ring leak better change CMDI or Don F remote better much Have a fun run good luck!

so thats the problem with the CMB needles. See it makes more sense to me now why to not use it.Have a K and a BV.

I think I'm going to lose the trim tabs and see how it runs have them flat now. So I don't think I need them boat runs tight and dry.

Thanks Allan for explaining it to me.

David,

The pic tells alot, don't lose the tabs, trust me on this, if you plan to ever race it,it will need the tabs. Looks

like they should be mounted closer to strut about 1/2". My CalCraft had wider tabs, but were mounted about 3/8"

from center line of strut 1/32" above transome and level with bottom. Also check turn fin mounting, should be right off the bottom corner of transom, chine line,

and perpendicular to bottom of hull, and paralell with keel. If your 3RD channel needle is workin for you, thats OK , but there are better

avaiable like mentioned which will give you less problems and better performance.

Glad your hull repair worked out.

Thanks for the info. I will need wider tabs to move them that close. With these tabs if I put them that close the bolt hole will hit the stringer.

The turn fin is set up like you said.

runs real tight in the corners made a 1/2"and 1/4" shorter fin . This fin was in the water going strait. Hope it will make it loser coming in and out of corner. Scrubs of to much speed in the corners When you turn tight.

I think what Alan was trying to tell was that the top piece of you two piece trim tab is upside down. Turn the top piece over and it is easier to adjust. Should be a bigger gap between tab and the piece that holds the bolt.

david run an x450 3 blade on your boat before you make any changes to it. that hull likes the 3 blade trust me on this i have been running these hulls for 20 years now.run your pipe length at 9.5 inches measure from the back of the engine case wehre the exhaust snout is casted on.then measure from there to the high spot in the pipe 9.5 inches this boat will come alive, shane

well tried the new set up. WOW!!!

Pipe ended up at 9 7/8 plug to weld AB 5077-3/B prop. Same trim tabs set to middle of strait's, strut 1/8 from bottom and level.

Used short turn fin. No loss of speed in corners and no darting even at full speed and quick turn at full ruder.

also did some work on the eng. Checked head clearance reset to .011. Did some work on the sleeve and carb.

Must have done somthing right. Would never pull th 5077 befor.

Now I need to get it in the water with other boats and see what happens.

Going to head to one of the local clubs tomrrow and see if I can get it in the water.

Thanks for the help.

Well ran the boat the last two weekends at the Orlando Culvert Dodgers lake. No nitro boats but lots of Gas boats.

It doesn't care what the water is like runs like it's on rails. Comes out of the water and lands flat and true.

Runs with the gas boats no problem 60+ MPH.

Still looking for the pipe length that is perfect.

Going to go to my first race this month in Melbourne.

Like one of the guys said "that old girl runs good"

David

Well raced it for the first time and yes race water is much different than just messing around with the boats at the club

Learned a lot real quick!

You better get a good start. It is not fun trying to play catch up. The water will open up and swallow you with no warning! :(

If you are not fast you better be tight.

The boat was real fast could walk over all the boats. Now I just have to learn to read the water and stay out of the roster tails. O and don't try to pass one boat length behind another boat. <_<

Felt good when at the end of the heat the guy next to me said that boats fast.

Can gain 6 boat lengths coming out of the corner just to lose it in the next cause I get scared in the corners. The boat can do it I just don't trust my self yet. Don't what to wreck some one in my first race.

Pulling a X455/3 this time. Tested a X457/3 and will pull it just need some tweaking on the strut. If they thought it was fast this race Wait till next one B)

Making a cowl to cover the back and need bigger trim tabs.

I'm hooked! Dam the torpedo's full speed ahead :p

David

PS All the other boats were the same make I was the only odd ball and all had the same eng I have.
