The date has been set for the fall-winter FE stand alone race. Nov 24-19 is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We are adding a couple classes with local interest. P/ltd Offshore, P Jersey Skiff, and Q/limited.
Jersey Skiff is a 4S (P) class with a 40X74 motor limit. Sarasota has 4 of them and they found that motor made it a crazy driving class over the 3660 limited which was underpowered.
Another local class we are seeing growth in is Q/limited. Single motor 40X74 maximum on 4-6S. No length limit and for now Mono, Cat< outboard Tunnel combined. (would be a killer setup for a Zip33 down the line)
logic: The next step for a P/limited racer to move up is Full P or Q which gets very expensive keeping up with motor and controllers. A 40X74 motor is inexpensive as are Raider 150 or T-180 controllers. That and AMPS go way down. With a data logger I tested a 37"mono and a leopard 1400KV motor. ($80) It ran 56mph with a 6 lap prop, and pulled 130-140 amps. Temps were 120's. The next reason we started this class is there are Sonicwaves, Spartans, Pursuits and Genesis out there now that could compete but not well in Full Q. Anyone see any of those at the pond?

I like the idea of Q limited. Sounds like you've picked the right size motor. My bet is this will become very popular. Good luck with the race.

I think the success of a Q limited class is not going too far out on Watts. Motor size and Watts run parallel. A 40X82 with aggressive props for 6 laps pushes the popular under $200 controllers with 180-220 advertised capability. Staying down at 40X74 will make inexpensive ESC's last. Also the 3-5mph less will allow more boats to finish upright. I have been testing with the Raider/Flycolor 150 and it seems to hold up well. If we see numbers grow here I think other clubs may adopt the class. P/limited has put FE on the map and I see Q/limited requiring less amps (esc cost) than a full P or Q with decent performance. The RTR market should welcome something like this. Bigger, faster but won't break the bank. That's a recipe for growth.

I've been wondering if our QX 400 is a bit too big for the Q class. And since we've found our NX 365 handles the NR 46 power very well, I built an FE version of it to try a 40x82 motor and see how it handles that power

BUT I would like to try a 40x74 and the Q limited specs on this hull

What KV motor and prop are you running on the 40 X 74

So far a couple of us are running the Leopard 40X74 1400 kv motor. (OSE $80) I have run it on two mono's 33 and 37", a 33"cat and Ray R with a 36" cat. Props I like the M445 & 545 on lighter boats and the 444/3 446/3 CNC alum (OSE) are running well. ABC 1815/3 and 1817/2 are fast but take battery. You might be surprised how well your 365 will run. From experience the 40X82 is faster but overpowers a tunnel. The 40X74 will stay upright and a lot easier on an ESC, From data logger testing on 6S I saw 120-150 amps with stiff wheels. Speeds are 50-55mph and more is there. We had a bunch of P/lmtd tunnels in our area but guys switched to monos and cats as they got tired of retrieving tunnels. Same deal with Q. The limited 40X74 might bring some tunnels back as there are many cheap .45 hulls gathering dust that would run very well. Q/limited power is similar to a .45 nitro and a 40X82 is moderately faster. Try one and share your results. 6000 to 8000 ma will cover 6 laps easy. I like a pair of 3300 -3600's in parallel

RACE UPDATE!!!!!!
We have had some inquiries about running a P/ltd hydro class. We have 9 hydro entries now and 5 are full "P". We have added P/lmt Hydro on RC Racingevents so if you want to add this class register again and misspell your name with one letter. If your already registered in full P we can switch you before or on race day.

Our 40X74 classes will allow motors 40.99 by 75mm max to accommodate reasonable priced market available units. This affects Q/lmt and P Jersey Skiff, all drivers so far registered have been advised

Finally signed up tonight. I’ll be running p-limited mono And my son is going to be running his first race in p-limited tunnel. I hope the other guys is p-limited tunnel will welcome him in this class. I had him at the pond today and he was doing a great job making laps. I will have him at the pond as early as possible on Saturday to make laps on the course with the buoys.

The field is set and 14 heats in a round so 42 heats of racing. We will have a drivers meeting at 7:30 AM and discuss any extra heats. Weather looks good, maybe AM showers but wind at our backs not affecting the pond. Temps in the mid 70's.
Days are short this time of year and sun sets around 6PM. We have to be done and awards by 5PM so we can break down equipment and put tables and retrieve boat away before dark.
