That article could kill any new model boating in the Baltimore Area. I take it nobody from the Club got to Proof Read that one!

Unfortunately "any press is good press" is not always the case as is here. I have to agree with Scott that this particular article was poorly written, most likely by someone who really didn't want to be there. As I said over on JRCBD, read it from an outsiders perspective, NOT as a model boater, and tell me how this story would motivate you to want to try it- "between $25 and $30 a gallon" "noisy" "but the fuel costs more than eight times the price of regular gas" and the stake thru the heart opening sentence of the story- "Drivers bemoaning the price of gas and long commutes can take consolation in the fact that they don't have to depend on remote-controlled boats to get around town." I've raced at Hagerstown many times over the years & don't see that story helping that race, that site or bringing in new boaters from that area at all. :(

actually, only the photographer was there. he asked questions, took notes - then i read the article & it's written by a person that wasn't there! she wrote from his notes & comments! no time to proof read, he was there sun. afternoon, that story went to press for mon. am. if proof reading was even offered to the balt. club? none the less, thanx to tim & ALL his club for a great weekend. i had a good time. waiting for sept., now. todd & david good to meet you guys, glad to see you made it home ok. will, really good to see you again. see ya'll at the pond.

There was a lady there on sunday who wrote the article she spoke to Eric and Don while we were racing. The photographer was there on Saturday taking pictures with his family at the park. I think she must be like the roving reporter type who does the off the beaten path kinda stories. No club officials or Park officials were given a chance to proofread what was about to be printed.

oops, i didn't see her at all. just the photographer. still think they would have at least offered you guys a chance to see the article, before it went to press. with the internet, it woulda been easy........

This is a classic example of the need to be careful of what one says to a newcomer or someone who is curious about the hobby. They appear to have walked away with snippets of information, some of which will help, but many that won't help lure new people to the hobby. All too often people are turned off after being told of expensive fuels, $500 engines, and $2000 boats.

Edit: it appears they allow comments. It would be good if some club members could post some well thought out clarifications.

no matter what u tell the press they will put in what they want.if they would have put the gas hydros in the pic instead of the sport 40 class or more pics of the differnt classes.it could have helped more with a little insite about each class and the speed and cost per class.as far as with the fuel they left out how long it will last u for what u pay for it and how many boats u run.
