Hey Joe.

Thanks for clearing that up. Glad to hear that the club is making a come back.

If anyone in the Ottawa area want to get into r/c boating (fun or race), I strongly suggest you contact Joe. He and the rest of the OVR gang are a dedicated group of boaters. Some of my more memorable races over the past 12 years were in Ottawa. Corn roasts, BBQ, camp fires, bench racing and let's not forget the refreshments.

Lots of fun !

If anyone in the Southern Ontario region wishes to join an organized club, feel free to contact me for info.

Thanks ..........................

Jeff.

You are forgetting one thing. What happens when one of your own members gets hurt with a model boat? Lets say he gets seriously injured and desides to sue the club executive, other members, and the land/pond owner. Are you willing to take that chance? First off you loose your site and next you could loose your home.

I know it sounds far fetched however, stranger things have happened. You might think that the group of guys you run with are a solid bunch that would never do such a thing. Once an injury occurres and a lawyer gets involved, watch out!!!

All your members should have IMPBA insurance if they wish to run their boats. I'd hate to be on the club executive knowing that members are not required to have insurance. Kind of like playing Russian Roulette.

Joe,

Good to hear that the club is still active. I keep checking on the OVR web site and it says there was no scheduled races in 2002. Perhaps the site needs update. Now I just need to paint my new .21 hydro.

Jeff, thanks for the invitation. If I do road trip to Toronto this summer, I will look you guys up.

Randy, can you elaborate on why you think the MAAC coverage is insufficient? I think accepting MACC would help promote this sport as I know of several airplane guys who wanted to try this facet of hobby but changed their mind because of extra insurance....just my oopinion.

Kez.

We contacted MAAC head office and they have no information pertaining to r/c boats. They were quick to offer us a membership though. When they were questioned about insurance for r/c boaters, they quickly did a turn-around and told us to contact the r/c boat chairman. I personally did this and he was upset about how poorly MAAC represents boaters. His exact words were ''all they care about is planes and helicopters''.

MAAC's insurance policy is directed towards flying and has nothing to do with boating. They also have absolutely no safety rules or regulations when it comes to r/c boats. The insurance policy says that a boater is covered as long as he follows the safety regulations. But, there are no safety regulations! I could not get a straight answer from them.

My suggestion is to forget about MAAC, pay the little extra money and join an affiliation that solely represents model boaters. IMPBA or NAMBA are the most popular.

Nobody said this hobby was cheap.

Have fun ........................ Randy
