A damned small sub-woofer cabinet? A Birdhouse/birdchipper? Looks interesting, whatever it is. I saw a small wire sticking out in the first shot so it's gotta be something electrisikal. :)

Spray painting........
Exactly. This is for all you guys who want to do painting inside without a major revamping to control the fumes & overspray. I usually would raise the shop door about 2 feet & use a fan but since I moved here in July the wind always seems to be blowing towards the shop door. This has delayed some painting projects. So for about $150 I built this unit that stands alone, it's on wheels & uses a conventional 4" dryer discharge hole to vent thru an outlet I cut into the garage door. The fan unit itself is a 150 cfm unit & the grille uses a standard 12x12 filter. You want to catch the paint particles before they exit the shop so you don't re-color the driveway. Anyone who wants more detailed info just e-mail me directly.

The 4" dryer outlet in the bottom of garage door. This one has a set of little flap doors on the outside so it's almost a flush mount & doesn't interfere with door opening. You need to put a piece of screen in it to keep the critters out.....

What sort of filter did you use Don? I wonder if a panel type filter from a late model fuel injected car would work OK?

It might but at under $1.00 each the 12x12 standard vent filter is rather cost effective. :D :D :D

That is cost effective indeed! I didn't realise something so cheap would be up to the task! Kewl!

All you need is to give the paint particles something to cling to. :D

cool idea, now that's something i could use. This is how i did it before:

i needed to buy extra news papers to cover the wall

Dude! Did the wife see this? Mine would have freaked! although she does let me keep my Harley engines in the house. Don, where did you get the fan unit?

My wife gets pissed when I paint in the dungeon! I hear "ARE YOU PAINTING DOWN THERE AGAIN ?" I'd do it outside but it's a little cold right now for the paint. I really need to build a paint booth in an old room that used to be for Coal storage I think.

I painted my 1st boat inside my condo because I had two broken legs at the time and couldn't get down the stairs. Problem is, I couldn't get to the news paper either. It took 2 gallons of Acetone to get the paint out of the carpet when we moved!

I couldn't run from the wife either!

Got the fan from Home Depot, it's a kitchen/bathroom exhaust fan. Basically you want to find the highest cfm rating you can. The higher the cfm the better it will suck .......... :p :p :p

I enjoy an explosion as much as the next guy(ok,more)but you guys may want to be shure that the fan motor wont ignight the fumes.and those neighbor kids, with the matches, at the exaust vent.....???

Don,

Thanks for all the info on this exaust project.

Do you think this could suck up some airborne dust from a shop? Even using a vacume I still get more than I would like.

Mike
