January 16, 2015 the Orlando Culvert Dodgers will host their ever popular Winter Nats with nearly 300 boats entered, mostly Gas.

The following weekend, Jan 24, the Brandon boaters will host the first Winter Nitro Championships with nearly 200 boats entered, all Nitro.

Nearly 500 different boats racing in Florida on back to back weekends! How awesome is that?

I have no doubt that this nitro event could easily pull in over 300 boats. Even on a local level there's still a lot of players on the bench...maybe next year given a little more notice and planning we could make it a three day event.

Nitro lives!!

Elias we use to do over 200 boats at a district race in 2 days alot of people cant afford a 3 day race that is big reason i dont go to the winternats,

Good point Robert.

There are however manty2 day district races to attend. January is a great opportunity to have very well attended races here in Florida because our Northern friends are looking to escape the snow and ice. There are a couple of racers coming the from Sewden just to spectate at our two Florida races in January.

Just because one may not be able to attend a 3 day event for various reasons is not reason to miss out.. Just show up for day 2 and 3. It's still racing and hanging out with a great bunch of people!

Good deal as only 320 nitro boats raced in all 9 races last year.

Heck 3 of the races not one nitro boat.

It's just one of those things , not many can make 9 races , That's somewhere between $3000.00 and $4500.00 to race toy boats if nothing goes wrong , just the cost of racing and lodging , gas etc . just speaking for myself but other parts of life such as REAL boats etc limit my races to about 5 a year . The writing is on the wall , demographics of toy boat racing has changed drastically , new boaters prefer gas . More power to them .

For sure 9 races is a lot to try and make. Hopefully the Dis can come together and put on some nitro only races next year.

It is no fun just making class. If the races are limited to 3 or 4 nitro only races it will bring out a good group and we can enjoy racing more boats at one time.

This has need to happen for some time.

Hopefully the powers to be will see this and make it happen.

I think it is time to restructure the racing in FL to accommodate all the boats here.

Yes, I agree David. And problably the same for Gas...3 - 4 races. Over all attendance would be much better. There are a few guys in our district that race 1/8 Scale Nitro and Classic Thunder boat. Maybe some of those would start running Sport 45 hydro and or another gas class.

I want to race Gas and Nitro. It would be great to run all Gas or all Nitro during a given weekend.

Some gas racers may want more than 4 district races. Additional races could be in the form of one day races. With gas classes only, it would be possible to get a good turn out and still get it done in one day.

Same could go for Nitro if the numbers increase.

Yes but it will be hard to break with the tradition of what we have now.

Change is a hard thing after doing things one way for so long.

To many are stuck in the past and do not want to change.

Tradition was 12 to 14 classes of Nitro boats and 12 to 14 district races per year here in Florida.

30 classes of Nitro and Gas boats has CHANGED everything!

In time we will make improvements. The new Nirto races are a good start!

You gentlemen all make good points. I hope we will schedule more all nitro races next year too. I am hoping that many of the west coast nitro guys will come over to east coast races to make it a big success. The Broward club will most likely have an all nitro race next year and hoping to see the west coast guys there. We should try to get more Fl.clubs to participate in these races also.
