The first Eagle rigger was build in 1990. There were a few variations until 1994. Does anyone have an early Eagle or photos of one?

Andy, I might have pics of the Eagle Brian Charney was testing for you in the early 90's. I definitely have video of it running. I'll blow the dust off and look.

Thanks Bradley! That is a later version. Maybe late 91 or early 92. The 91 version mostly had the rears under the tub, but some were retro fitted with side rears later. Can you get a bottom pic? I am looking for a specific front sponson design.

Andy, I have one that I believe is an early eagle, but have never been sure. I'll postbpics shortly, maybe you can verify that it is an eagle or not. Rear shoes on the side, not under & I have 2 sets of fr. sponsons. I'll post pics of both sets, along with one of the world's least aerodynamic cowls.

A few shots of my twin sponsons winglets on rear nothing underneath and surface break on tub
Hi Wayne,

Your left front sponson is of 93'/94' era, aside from the ride pad strip. All Eagles had the "surface break" on tub. Yours reminds me of Wind Ding surface breaks.

andy was that the boat we had with the big top fuel wing?
Yes Chris, that was the 1991 version. There were a couple of generations of front sponsons that were used on that version.

Thanks Robin!

I've never made a cowl that was not aerodynamically clean, so that part is definitely not OEM.

Thanks for posting the Mongoose pic Bradley!

Below is pic of 1991 Twin CMB 90 powered Eagle. This boat had the second version front sponsons. I am looking for one with the first version sponsons.

Hey Andy,

I know I have pics of our old Eagle 67 with the rear wing - I will have to dig them up...Our twin-90 was a later version we got in 93' with rear sponsons...

Steve

Here's pics of mine, the cowl looks like someone cut the unused rear portion off a tunnel cowl. It was on the boat when I got it from Mike Larson. Had a green, yellow & maroon paint scheme. John Knight bought this boat out of Florida as an Eagle. He was not convinced it was after he received it & passed it on to Mike, who I got it from a few years back. I have run/raced this boat with - WAIT FOR IT- a drum rotor K&B. Bothnsets of fr. sponsons have anti trips on the left one, but not the right. Andy, hopefully you can identify this hull once & for all.

Robin,

Your tub is OEM. The rear sponsons are not. The blue front sponsons are not OEM. The front sponson in the first pic (red sides?) are OEM. Does that set of front sponsons have two flat planes like JAE?...or is the front surface curved? If two planes like JAE they would be 1991 versions. We built them both ways.

Bob Wilner's Twin 67 is 1992 version. In 1993 the rear sponsons curved into a point at the front and were a bit larger.

Thanks for the pics Bob. Your Twin 67/80 in a 1992 Eagle.

Danny King's Eagle is a 1991 version with the two flat planes on the front sponson bottoms.

1990 and early 91 versions had no non trips. After that all versions had a non trip on the left side only.

The very first Eagles (early 1990) had front sponsons with inward angled sides like current Crapshooters with the addition of rear over hangs like Wing Dings. We only built a few of them. Mostly for Jerry Pettifer in Louisianna. Jerry set some two lap oval records with those boats.

Pretty neat stuff here on Eagle outrigger variations. Did'nt realize there was such an array of development (change) details over the years. That pink & white ("Circus Circus") hull is very Coyote-ish in style, at quick glance.

Does the "over-hang" rear sponson type configuration aid in turning?

Andy, the sponsons not on the boat have curved front surfaces. They have a break/step like a jae, but only the rear surface after the break is flat. The sponsons on the boat are smooth fr. to rear, no break. One continuous surface, curved at the front.
