The width on HH12 is about 2.81", & the height is about 1.80". We would prefer a mount that is on the side of the hull. Maybe you could offer it for a side mount, & a transom mount? Just a thought.

side mount would notbe a problem at all as long thare is a goood mounting surface!Jimmy

That isn't a problem, there is a 1/16 ply & 2 layers of 1/32, & then a .030 carbon fiber plate for reinforcement on the side where the rudder mounts. ;D

The side mount is the way to go. Lots lighter and there is a lot of junk removed from the transom by doing this. It might be difficult with the side mounted sponsons though. Also if you make the side mount with one bolt, it will kick up if you hit something. I would recomment this with the .12, but with big stuff, I would shear pin the hinge of the rudder instead. I hope these pics will give some of you guys out there who are making hardware some ideas to ponder with. In Japan most of the rigger guys are using kick up rudder systems. It is starting to flow over to monos as well. These are some pics of what my friend made. He has the tools : :) .

This is just one example. I think he did a real good job on it, but there is one problem. You have to use a very flexible push rod with this one. Most people spring load just the blade. This way if the rudder pops up it puts no stress on the push rod at all. With this system, you can possibly damage your servo.

Having a loaded kick up rudder will save you a race or two guaranteed. I have run right over the top of a rigger that spun out in front of me, and just kept on going like there was no tomorrow. I was lucky that other parts of my boat didn't get damaged. It is also prefered to that the guys you are racing with have them. It will save you the day in many cases if you are the one getting the slash. There has also been talk about making them manditory.

a side mount would only work on a rigger thet looks like a sg egale ( no side sponsons)Jimmy :D

hammer,

that looks pretty nice......in bigger, faster boats [not that lil' boats can't go fast :) ] it must take a very high-tension spring to keep the rudder from flexing up during normal running, but the more tension added, the more chance it'll rip off you transom in a crash and more damage done to whatever you hit.....break-away rudder paradox?

btw, how much more expensive do break-aways run then regular rudders, particularly in .21?

Jimmy,

Here is a picture of the prototype hammerhead12 showing the side mounted rudder no side mounted rear sponsons. This is what Ron Olsen & I will need for the production versions.

I have no idea? ??? Maybe because it is such a cute little thang!!!! LOL!! lets ask Hammer! This little lady is now in Las Vegas. I just hope the new owner apperciates the little rigger as much as I do. :-

hey look,

it's that guy with the PURPLE paint job talking about someone else's strange taste!!! ;D ;) :D

lol,

i've got confederate flags pasted all over mine, probably wouldn't be allowed to race at the nats for political incorrectness even if my driving wernt so bad! [ :-X :) ]

i have to say both PJ's purple flame job and hammer's pink antenna look pretty cool though.

I hate seeing how nice that lil rigger is because I have zero talent for wood work! I want to buy one so bad but will wait until I get the confidence to glue stuff together. Hell if it comes out nice I too might get a pink antenna! LOL :D

Hey Big Daddy,

We have designed the production version to require very little wood work at all. Just a little sanding & gluing. We wanted a (almost) snap together kit. if it wasn't for the need for epoxy, it would be. Our kit should be on the market soon. We are in the process of finishing up the minor details in the instruction book, & establishing the business officially with the government.

I bought a pack of Tamiya antenna masts and the pink one was the only one I had left when I built this rigger.

Goes good with the baby blue anyway.

The kit is very easy to assemble. I haven't put a wood kit of anything together in years myself. Wade and Marty both did a Helluva job with this project, I'm just the guy that puts the kits together for shipment. My kit is hitting the water Friday afternoon, Wade is going nuts because he can't make it down here. I might have to drive up to G.R. to run it at the Park near his house, the old racing site of the Grand Rapids Area Wave Runners.

BTW, I put an anti-rollover antenna on mine, do you think that it'll help it stay upright? : :)
