Yep Preston! We have 22 guys in the "club" as far as I can see and a few who have done if unofficially such as Gill from Brazil. Just a few years ago we had none.

My next goal is 150.

"Why is it that the electrics can make more speed than nitro's....is it just a distance thing??? I understand the principles...electrics have instant torq etc....but 32 cells and a brushless is HEAVY!!!!

The land record for r/c cars is held also by an electric car...go figure...."

The boat I ran 126 mph with was built 6 1/2 years ago.

Nitro will be back on top soon......in boats and r/c cars! :)

Thread Lake was an IMPBA Internats site a long time ago. If you look at the shot, where they set up is right next to the Highway but it does set about 40-50 feet above the lake. Unfortunately, the whole neighborhood has gone downhill thanks to the GM plant closings in the area. The records site had turned into a dumping ground and as another place to be on the pipe if you get my drift. We found a lot of paraphrenalia laying around last year.

Well Andy you know where your fastest lake is located. So when you are ready come on up. It will be good to see the Brown's again.

The club I want to be in is the 120mph club its alot more exclusive. I think there's only 2 or 3. Thats the thing about SAW your never happy! <_< Congrats to Tom VandenBrink, he e-mailed me a few times and he wanted it real bad. Like anything in life you just have to stick with it. The biggest problem I had with driving was trying not to correct a bad line, I drive sticks and now I lift my finger slightly off my right stick on a good run and just get out of it if its not. Its especially hard when your are trying to back up a record run.

Ya the "hood" as we call it never was the best, but having a local guy cut the grass and keep it clean (somewhat) sure seems to help. Anyway where are ya gonna find 2500' of glass smooth water to run yur toy boats at 8am on a Sunday? :p

Now with Nitro, Gas, and Electric all having people who have gone over 100, the "Multi Discipline" club will undoubtedly start. Last November Mark Grim set the NAMBA S Hydro record at over 113 mph which means he has eclipsed the century mark in 3 Nitro classes and one Electric class. Andy has a triple triple to his credit.

Wonder if you will ever smell pump gas from one of Mark's boats?

Well Terry, if you want to drive all the way over here to the 'Zoo, we have a lake. The "neighbors" don't mind the noise a bit, it's a Cemetary.

Not to really Dis Thread Lake as it's location does help to keep the water calm. I got into it with Jay Turner over on the RRR site telling him that Legg Lake is too small for the speeds that they are now reaching on that pond. He was complainging that he didn't think that Thread Lake was large enough! PFFFFFFFFFFFT!

Dennis Whitt would like to see some combined IMPBA/NAMBA SAW record trials so that you could set records in both organizations at once.

Terry, I understand that you and the others are doing the best that you can with what you have to work with so Kudos for you guys for that. My little practice pond here, known as the Toxic Pond is having the same problems. On the other side, you have to watch where you're walking at because of all of the discarded syringes laying around. Spring Valley was headed in that direction with substance abuse and prostitution but the City isn't going to let that happen. That is why they encourage us boaters and the car racers to use the facilities in the Park to try to make it a place where families can come to again in comfort.

Ya it's a shame to see an area go down hill like that, don't think the local people there are all that bad or dangerous, they're just poor.

Guess GM pulling out of Flint in the 80's really hurt. In fact the infamous Michael Moore's from Flint and usually has a spot about it in his movies, even did a feature about it called "Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint".

It's still the only spot in the north running record trials. With it's great history going back to the 60's and John Bridge I think we should do all we can to keep it. ;)

Has anyone offically gone over 100 with a 21 boat? And backed it up?

Dale, I may be wrong but I think STEVE ODONNELL was the first to run a model boat over 100 mph. He did this with a C/F 21 hydro, about 10 yrs. ago.

Kentley Porter has made numerous 100+ passes at SAW but the gods keep conspiring & not giving him the back up pass. Either the boat doesn't trip the lights or it blew off. As far as I know nobody has "officially" backed it up yet. My money is on Kentley. B)

I think 100+ mph will come fairly easy for the twin myself but what about a 90 size boat with a 90 size motor?  Corse you can shoehorn a 1" into a .12 boat and haul a*# but what about the real deal. Can a heat race set up be run at 99.9 mph or faster?

Buck, Well before I ran well over 100 m.p.h, I had a 90 sg, full turn fin, full heat race setup that ran 98+ with a 100 cmb.I also ran 97 in the same boat with a k90.

Both speeds were ran with conservative pipe lengths, just shortening the pipe a little would have put it over 100. So the answer is by far yes!

GOOD LUCK, JEFF LUTZ

Thats a really interesting post Jeff,

I have an 80SG and a K90 that is in a different boat. Maybe I should give this SAW stuff a go! What do I need to do in terms of set-up changes? I've never run SAW, only oval racing so I have no idea. Also what prop did you use? I doubt I'd run 100 as if it was that easy everyone would be doing it, but I'd love to see what it could do..

I have seen Aaron Alberico run 156Kph (a fraction under 100mph) and it was awesome.

Tim in Oz.

Tim, We ran 99 mph with a K-90 in an 80SG with full turnfin using a V967/3 cup 6.7" back in 1996.

Tim put on a 2170 with small cup ( 6.2"-6.4") and make a small turnfin. Then play with pipe length till it goes fast. The 2170 is a much faster prop than the V967/3, so it shouldn't be difficult to get 100+ if you work at it a little.

Thanks for that Andy! As far as I know there are 2 official 100mph boats here in Oz, and both are CMDi.

Does the small turnfin need any angle in it at all or is it just a flat plate there to prevent the torque steer from the prop?

(all of this will have to wait until after our Nat's in April - but it sounds like a challenge I want to have a go at! Might have to order a special prop from you!)

Hey Tim at last year's SAW there was no turn fin on my boat at all & it actually tracked better. Spend some time practicing turning though, it's way different without the fin.

From my heat SG 45 boat now equipped with a Mac 67 I could figure out the huge potencial this size rigger has either with a 67 or 84 and maybe with a 1.0.

It seems to me that the relationshiop between the 45 boat with a good screamer engine of these sizes can produce high speeds effortlessly.....However be in the club is another story!

I agree that a heat boat can be in the club with the right set up especially if it is a 45 boat but forget your heat props and ask the experts on this topic to save lot of time.

There is no doubt 2170 is the prop of the moment but do not expect to get those speeds with a stock one at least in a single!

Well I've heard some interesting things on this thread and I'm going to give'em a go real soon. I made the call this morning to FL for some new "wheels" to try out so we shall see. I don't think the weather is going to be up to par this weekend so I'm going to have to hold off on running the new twin and my upcoming schedule dosen't look good either :( But they say good thing come to those that wait  . The good news is I get to go home for a few days after having not slept in my own bed since the end of December. Man it will be nice. ;)
