Tuned pipe header spring retaining holes getting worn

Hi Tom, Thanks very much for your offer. I wish I read your reply last night. I ended up gluing a piece of 1/16 K&S tubing with JB Weld. The ID is just big enough to accept the spring. I am going to try it and see how it holds up. If it did not work, I will send the header to you. Thanks...

Tuned pipe header spring retaining holes getting worn

Guys, thanks for the jeweler drill bit info. I remember having used them many years ago for drilling holes in PC boards. Steve, can you post a picture of the big ring that fits over the header of your CMB? Thanks, k

Tuned pipe header spring retaining holes getting worn

Thanks Guys for your replies. Mark, I cannot silver solder steel or SS to aluminum. And 2-56 washer is too big for the flange anyway. But your idea is similar to one I thought of, which is to enlarge the existing holes and JB weld the smallest K&S brass tubing into the holes. Danny...

Tuned pipe header spring retaining holes getting worn

The Picco exhaust header is held to the motor with a retaining spring as does CMB. The spring digs into the aluminum header and the holes become elongated and will eventually wear through. I don't want to be replacing the header every year. Is there a better way to keep the holes from...

    Dumas Sorcerer

Looking good. Please post more pictures and of course running shots or videos when done. Suggestion: I would back up the T-nuts with either a piece of ply or a couple of layers of 6 oz cloth before putting the deck on. I have had wafer seeping through the nuts or even falling off on me before k

    Dumas Scarab 55KV for sale

I figure I will never get to building this one. It is complete with the original wood rails, instructions, radar arch, Dumas running hardware kit and the Scarab decal. I will add photos later. This is the first time i ever sell anything on IW. I do not have Paypal and prefer not to ship it...

    C/G for mono hull

I think the CG location is a function of the width of the hull. The narrower the hull the farther back the CG. I converted an old Dumas 45 deepvee to outboard. The CG came to 25% from the transom. It ran great and has no tendency to stuff k

    Turtle wax rubbing compound

Has anyone tried using rubbing compound instead of wet sanding between coats? I have a can of Turtle rubbing compound. The instructions on the can said " does not contain silicone. Perfect for rub down between coats" I am refinishing a 40 size vee hull but I do not want to sand off the paint...

    Epoxy problem

I have never used Tower Hobbies epoxy so I cannot comment on its properties. Years ago, I only used Hobbypoxy 2 hour epoxy for building. It worked great. Then tried their 15 min epoxy for sheeting WOF. It cured properly but the surface remained tacky exactly like what you described. I...

    Klaskote question

Hi Walt, I did use the epoxy and scrape technique on several wood hulls and it worked well. Filled the grains better than primer. In my case, I am rebuilding an old fiberglass hull. There are several Bondo patches that the primer would hide them better. If I start spraying color, I may need...

    Klaskote question

I sprayed several Klasskote primer coats today using Klean Strip lacquer thinner. I can report that it worked well although the primer seemed to take a little longer to become tack free. I can post picture tomorrow when the primer has cured enough to be handled.

    Klaskote question

I have been using lacquer thinner for cleaning the spray gun but I have never tried to thin KlassKote paint with it. Lacquer thinner seems to do a good job cleaning up the gun. My guess is that it may be OK as a reducer if used in small quantity. I will try it this weekend and will report on...

    US flag decal

Thanks guys. I noticed Sig still offers them although I might have to order directly from them. Tower does not carry them anymore.

    US flag decal

A couple of deep vee projects are ready for paint. I want to give them the vintage Cigarette scheme and need some US flag decals. There used to be plenty of them at the LHS in the RC car section. But I could not find them anymore. A search online and Tower does not carry them anymore. Any...

Vintage R/C Boat Kit and Accessories

The Dumas CF deep vee is one of the most scale like vee out there. It resembles the Cigarette offshore boat. I have built three of these. The only issue is that some kit would deform over time and the deck would sag. I believe it is due to improper mix of resin during layup and the resin...

Can you Loctite Heli-Coil repaired thread?

Thanks Brad. Very good info. Learned something new and useful. I like the work hardening benefit of using a form tap. kez

Can you Loctite Heli-Coil repaired thread?

Brad, I did not know what a form tap was until I saw your post and looked it up. I have never used one, obviously. The bolt size is 3mm. And I believe the 4-40 Heli-Coil tape is actually 5-40. Like I mentioned, and I could be wrong, metric threads is stronger (because of the finer pitch) in...

    Oil for Mixing Fuel

Judging by the posts, Morgan oil is a good quality lubricant, correct? I used to use Cool Power for flying but I heard the all synthetic blend can wear out a good motor quickly. Do I need to add some castor oil if I decide to try Cool Power for boats? I do not race and I run mostly 25%. Cool...
