Wrong carb on nitro

Hey guys I recently got this Picco 65 and took a closer look at it today, I noticed that it has an OS carb meant for an engine about a 1/4 of the size.
my question is , does Picco still produce engines and carbs and if not what would be a good fit? Could I use a carb off a os91 or ys91 or is that too big? Any ideas where I could buy one? Thanks Scott.
and ya I did get the engine started but obviously ran like crap.
I also have a Picco 45 with a carb on her but definitely looks to be a completely different style.

There should be plenty of used carbs guys have laying around that will fit that engine.

You could also contact KRE, they make carbs. I think you can find them on manufactures and distributers on this site.

Bigger isn’t always better. What’s the bore on that carb? You might be surprised how well it runs. Like Mike Z said, it is an OS. Smaller carbs are going to provide more consistency, better punch off of a corner and easier throttle ability.

Only if the spray bar and needle can deliver it. And OS is some of the smallest bore to SB RATIO there is.

And I’ll have to check the bore sizes tonight but whatever size the OS is ,it’s atleast 2 or 3mm smaller then the ID of the opening on the engine. Which A lot of air would be sucked in, I mean I did get it running but did not run good at all. I think it said like OS12e so I googled it and it’s for a 3.5cc airplane or truck.
I wouldn’t mind trying it if the bore was the same size as the opening but it’s not even close.

There are a lot of really good guys in this hobby. One of the benefits of running older stuff is most guys give it away or for real cheap.

they probably used the os carb as they were easier to tune and had a secondary screw to adjust mid range transition where some of oem carbs did not

Yes the OS carb looks nice but like I said, it’s Way too small, there’s about a two millimeter gap in the O.D. of the carb and the inlet of the engine! I had it started once just because the whole boat was new to me and I wanted to see if the engine would even run so I just wrapped some tape around the carbs inlet to get it going but I’ll keep u guys posted this summer and maybe swap them around and do some test runs on each of them!

i gather it sounded horrible if u say it ran bad without water testing. it prob needs bearings,might want to check boca for those before u run it. ill assume it was lean running with a tiny carb. id check the rod bushings for slop as well.
o yea any picco/ops/k&b with the drawbar carbs CANT get a carb thats too big on them. so dont worry about that. the neck hole isnt big enough to do that.
as long as piston/liner arent scorched/scored (happens with running lean with low nitro) ,the older engines run just as good or better than todays new engines . biggest difference is prop selection . instead of 20 odd props in yesteryear we got literally hundreds to try now . + 50% nitro being the norm instead of 25% and under. all engines are still designed to run off 0-10% thats why they are still all over-cooled .
in any case ,research ur props in the 60-64mm range depending on ur hull and have fun !!

Ya this is the machine I’m referring too. It actually sounded nice and smooth and very loud but I did not have good throttle response nor was it tacking it all that much. But I’m sure the previous owner used a different type of nitro as well. I run rc Helis so all I had laying around was 30% rotor rage.
what would u guys suggest that I buy for nitro fuel and %? My local hobby shops way up here in the sticks of Maine only deal with cars and trucks so I’ll have to order acouple gallons through the mail. I’m not going to be racing so I just need some dependable fuel. Any Picco 60 fanboys out there that could tell me a good brand that also ships? What do most guys run like 50%?
and the whole prop choice is all new to me as well, I just got into the boat scene but I’ve already bought like four boats and am completely hooked on this hobby and I’ve yet to even get One of them WET yet! Haha

Also the higher percent of nitro gives you more or less oil contents? I just want to play it safe and don’t need an extremely fast machine, I’d rather have an easier tuneable machine!
