Just a reminder that the WWW race will be Saturday, May 8th at the Badger Pond in Kenosha, WI.

Look to see all the D4 and surrounding area hotshots for some fun in the sun!!

Hopefully we will have some firefighters on hand in case the pond gets too hot or some ninjas to protect us. If we are feeling lucky, maybe some crapshooters will show up for a dice game. Sorry, can't think of any more boat names..lol.

Should be a good time for all!!

Charley

Hawks and Eagles flying over head!! Roadrunners scurrying down the road..

I should point out that the Badger Pond is enfocing a 95 Db limit at 50ft.. Our club is enfocing a no rubber elbow rule as a muffler rule.

No preregistration. Just show up and have fun!!

Thanks for the info Charley

This is a must do race.. The badger pond is second to none and the 3-W members are good folks.

Look forward to kicking off the 2004 racing seasion.

I sure hate to see clubs do something different about noise. Not allowing a device that may work better than some mufflers is counter productive. If you have a noise level and a db meter, why not let anything pass for a muffler. If IMPBA passes a db limit, some pipes won't need mufflers.

Bob

Sorry Paul.. No electric classes.

Bob.. IMPBA is at a stand still on the noise issue. The Badgers mandated the 95 Db limit and we decided on a no rubber elbow ruling to force the quiet issue. We heard to much grumbling about the lack of an attempt to quiet boats last year. This, along with the Db limit should go a long way to saving ponds.

I wish IMPBA would just pass a standard Db rule.. I think most 21 boats would not need any muffling at all.. I know my 21 hydro ran 90Db with just an OPS 3280..

Charley

guess that means your not running one?

come on i can't take the suspense! <_<

Bob...How Charley phrased it was absolutely the thinking of the club. As the IMPBA rule stands right now, an attempt must still be made, regardless of how quiet any boat is, and regardless of any db limit. The Badgers adopted a rule for their pond (I am a memeber of that club as well as WWW) so we kinda merged the two rules together. The Badgers were very gracious letting us use their water so we did the best we can to fit both the IMPBA rule and the Badgers rules. We are the guiney pigs so to speak. I think d4 is a great group of guys, and will all work hard to fit within the guidelines of the first race of the year. It is a transitional year for all of us, with some clubs having a db limit, and some not. So, we'll all do the best we can...

Tom..."I know, I know..." (you probably knew that though)

If any one would like a flyer for the race, send me an email and I can send you one. Its been a while since I did it, but I think it's in "word" form.

Also, if you receive a flyer from me, please pass it on to your fellow club memebers who may not have the internet. We have not distributed flyers yet, and I have not seen the latest roostertail to see if our race is in there or not.

Thanks, have a great season

Pat Kelly brought a sound meter to the SGRA race this last weekend took some checks and I also took some checks.

What we found so far was at 50 foot from the lakes edge was almost all boats were well within the 95db range some were way lower and like Bob said some may not even need a muffling device. It did show that most of the recent action on noise was too quick. There were a few boats that were exceptionaly loud but it is silly to mandate a special rule because of a few indivisuals. Peer pressure will get them to come around eventually one of the loudest boat owners noticed how much better some of the boats were running with the muffled pipes and he was asking questions so he will most likely be changing his attitude. There are plans to take more samples at other events and sites and see what differences there are at the different sites. Reading were taken aprox. 50ft. from lakes edge off 4,5,6 and 1,2,3 with no difference noticed. As the test are run they will get more specific.

The Badgers are going to keep a "score sheet" if you will on the loudest Db reading per each class for each round. The hope is for other clubs to do the same so we put to rest the argument of different readings at different ponds. Or at least know what the readings are at each race site and adjust accordingly.

I fully believe that most boats will be under 95Db.. However, I can think of a number of boats last year that were in the 100Db range with a so called muffling device. All it takes is one noise complaint and the Badger Pond could be lost. There is a small subivision next to the pond, though the pond is on private land.

As Garrett said, the Badgers are allowing us to use their site. They already hold 2 racaes at this site plus open practice all season. We wanted to do everything we could to ensure the quietest race possible.

Hi Charley,

Are the .12 riggers going to run at this race? It sure would be nice to be able to try my hand at nitro racing. ;)
