Has anyone built and raced John Finchs Wild thing 3.5 cc mono that was written up in the Oct 2000 RCBM? I noticed there are no provisions for an adjustable strut just a brass tube to hold the stub shaft in place do this work ? Would this boat be competitive in 20 open mono class ? Where we race the water could get rough would this hull be suited for these conditions ? Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Wade Swatzell has one along with another person that I know. They are great handling hulls, it reminds me of a Seaducer the way that it runs on the water.

You can set it up with a regular strut if you wish to for easier adjustability. It should be a good boat for race or rough water conditions.

This hull is popular with a lot of kit builders. It has been upsized for .45's and Gas motors and downsized for under .21 motors. I have one with a .12 in it that Grimracer built.

I have built one. It has seen about 30ft of run time!! :p not the boats fault, mostly the driver, & mechanic....hey that is me :( LOL!!! I read somewhere (for the life on me, I can't remember where) race results of a "B" mono race where a John Finch Wild Thing was the winning boat. I personally really like the design. It is really light, easy to build, & cool looking.

A friend of mine built one exactly to the specs of the plans and ran an OS engine it. It screamed, you would have thought it was a Seaducer. I didn't see any bad habits in it and one reccomend them.

I have set my wife's up just like the plans as well. hopefull on the 17th (next time I have a chance to get to the lake) I'll find out how she runs.
