Where to Put Water Pump Pulse Fitting

I have a Redline 29.5 motor with this aluminum carb spacer, and need to know where I should install the pulse fitting for a water pump. Better on top, or on the side? Either may present a challenge.

Anywhere, as long as you don't drill through the pulse hole for the carb

The top side greatly reduces the gas/oil in the pulse line.
