The only GAS US-1 Internats 2000 was held here in Huntsville. A majority of the Gas guys are not interested in a timed event with heat racing. As for Sammy's statement about the new US-1 format there have been many sucessful US-1 Internats from 1998 on. 1998 was hosted here in Huntsville by the Nashville club and Huntsville club and in 1999 it was hosted here by the IMPBA board and IMPBA clubs. Look at the IMPBA web site it has the history of where the Internats have been hosted. Mike Lange and his club hosted it a few times as did the Jackson, TN club and those were all sucessful. Mike Langes group did step up when th eNew York club bailed on hosting the event due to pond problems and they did loose money then. I think the biggest help to promoting model boating was MeTIME their viedos and live streamming were great publicity for model boating around the world. That ype of publicity veiwed by boaters all over thworld makes modelers want to be a part of the competion and fun!

Lets ask this.. would the impba be willing to look at taking charge of this event to get the burden away from a club?

and lets say YES WE WILL.. where could be do this race? centrally speaking.. i only say centrally for the fact that it is more a even field when it comes to travel for everyone.

tom i am with ya.. you are correct in the fact of guys run multi classes and probably wouldn't work with mult events.

unless we did like someone mentioned earlier about say mono's 2 days. hydro's two days ect that way if you run mono's you don't have to stay a week to finish up.

one thing i would like to comment on. it was brought up about the racers group and how well that went off.. is that any different than looking into paying someone ( or group ) to run / hold this race instead of a club?
Yes, the racers group holding the Internats went off good. I would imagine that all the ones working the race would have to be IMPBA members for insurance purposes. Other than that, I do not see any other problems with it.

You guys keep harping on a central location as the answer to what ails the Internats and Nitro Nats. At least from the discussion that is one thing that is most clear to me. Now if that is so, in having a central location permanently, then consider the following:

1. It would exclude the racers in the south and southeast. That means most in FL, LA, SC, AL and maybe TX.

2. Likely exclude those in the NE, New England and such.

3. It would affect IMPBA and NAMBA racers, who ARE eligible to attend and participate. The CMB club for the Tunnel Championships we get 10+ racers from FL - NAMBA. At the Fall Nationals we get 20+ NAMBA racers.

Why would this exclude them?? Driving distance as many of you claim is the reason that you will not attend if it is not in your backyard. Your reasoning is flawed from the very outset. Racers now just do not seem to want to venture away from home much and EVERY Internats and Nitro Nats will suffer regardless of where it is held. Is a restructure of them needed? Maybe or maybe not.

The 2013 Internats in LA in November was canceled due to the lack of interest. Now the 2015 Nitro Nats were canceled for the same reason. That means in a span of 3 years, BOTH nitro formatted races were canceled for IMPBA.

Now for the gut check time for all of you that commented on this thread. Each of you have had the opportunity to attend both and chose not to do so. I respect that but all really need to look into the mirror and ask yourself if I could have attended. Could have I helped to preserve these races? Once you answer these 2 questions, then you have the answer to the overall question, how can we continue with these races? Only each of you can be the answer to it. I does not rest with IMPBA, their District Directors or the clubs themselves. It is you and only you!!

Actually I now have a lot of personal time given back to me and my family and I am most grateful. However, I would have preferred to host the 2015 Nitro Nats and that is now gone. No personal attacks guys, just a keen observation from one that has hosted the Internats and the Gas Nats in the past 4 years. Once you go through that pain and extreme work you will understand and only then. Until you do, you have no one clue on how much work it takes to host any of these races. And I do not see anyone on this discussion stepping forward and offering to host it.

Flame suit on but I don't really care, I will not do this again. I am done period with them. My focus is now on the 2015 Fall Nationals, which has sold out for the past 4 years, last year in 1.5 hours. Now that is a race! And people do travel a long way to attend each year so it can be done.

John no flame suite here man. just keep in mind the reason most harp on a central location is trying to keep a FAIR margin of travel time for all. and no offense but ( i could be wrong ) i don't recall racing with anyone from new england.. but that is just me.

if we take the location out of the way. . lets change the focus.

Out of the 7 pages so far on the topic ( and that is a good thing regardless ) who would be willing to help me get sponsorship from companies to host this in the future? i am not talking jiffy lube or burger king ( although money is money ) but fuel companies.. hobby companys, anyone involved in r/c in particualar boating.

I can work on sponsors, i could use some help.. so who is willing to help figure out the location and who is going to run the race.. i can help with that two but i am not going to try to tackle all this on my own.

Chris,

I am in for helping. The wife and I discussed something last night, that may (or may not) work, depending what we find out this weekend at the lake.

Bring it to MT Vernon Sam. I would drive the 3 hours to help. Plenty of parking and plenty of area.

That's an idea, you are about the 5th person who has told me that the past couple of days..I don't know how our club would feel about it or how much they would want to help... but if we could get a group of serious racers to come together to put on this race it would be possible to have it there, tons of room decent sized lake centrally located but im not one to make a decision like that it would take a group decision from the people who want to help put on a race like this.

Sammy,

People keep getting the names of the event mixed up Internats include a timed event and heat racing, Nationals just offers heat racing. The last couple of times the Internats format was offered the atendance was also way down. I don't have an answer to getting more to attend a race if I did we would not be canceling races here in Huntsville. We can not get the gas guys to come race here we can't even get nitro guys to race here. We're not even getting many people to come for our free fun run that we are offering. I have no answers just past history.

I've been out of the modeling for 37 years now just got back in October of last year building up my Boats getting ready to race this year and entried two races both have been cancelled.am I mad no growing pains my friends like I said about 37 years come back for the wonderful hobby this is so much support net for manufacturers and things it's been developed since then for me couldn't ask for much more many of you have probably just getting tired a lot of time and money has been spent.for some it's a way of life for others it's just still a hobby.is always been set up for the hobby for those that want to take it to the next level you have to think through it.

Why do people go to Hobart? because they offer payout ( prizes to the winner) it is very well promoted and has a serious group of racers backing it along with the whole town it is also centrally located and is also the same weekend every year so I already have vacation for 2015 & 2016 Hobart race .. Any type of racing these days in the world we live in rely on some sort of good payout ( prizes money etc ) it would be prizes in our case and also takes a good promoter to get racers to show up! Maybe Huntsville can come up with a race date now for next year maybe that will help I know when you guys put out your race date out for the may race this year we already had 9 races scheduled for this year we would have loved to come but our schedule was already full.

The draw to Hobart sounds to me like every large indoor R/C car race.

Sam its a 26 to 28 hour round tripper for me to Mt Vernon however I will be glad to help with this one if at all possible! I was part of the Racers Group in Jackson Tn. 2005 and I helped the Jackson club in 2004. I would be glad to do my job collecting entries, setting up the heats and scoring as well as CD some!
